PREDOCTORAL POSITION IN ARCHITECTURAL STRUCTURES R1

About your role

Your research will focus on analyzing cold-formed steel members under the supervision of Dr. Pedro Casariego. You will develop a thesis related to using cold-formed steel arches for roofing, learning about simulation principles via Finite Element Method (FEM) and Yield Line Theory.

You will study building structural behavior and utilize various calculation software, from simple 2D tools to complex 3D finite element analysis with programs like ANSYS.

You will also:

  • Conduct transversal research on cold-formed steel members as architectural elements in building envelopes.
  • Support other departments as needed, under Dr. Casariego's coordination.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in structural engineering, developing content and practical sessions.

What you will do

  • Develop a PhD research project in structural analysis focusing on cold-formed steel, Yield Line Theory, and FEM.
  • Publish research on cold-formed steel applications in architecture.
  • Support research group activities and teaching responsibilities.
  • Monitor ongoing projects.
  • Teach courses such as Mathematics, Physics, and various Structures courses at the undergraduate level, including developing content and practical sessions.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate

  • Holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.
  • Recently completed a Master’s Degree.
  • Has knowledge of structural design and aims to develop in this field.
  • Possesses basic or good knowledge of Maths and Physics.
  • Has research experience or interest.
  • Has published or wishes to publish in indexed journals.
  • Is highly motivated and analytical.
  • Is a patient team player with good communication skills.

Selection process

A committee of three staff members will evaluate candidates and select for an interview.
