CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB
OFFER DESCRIPTION
ICRA is seeking to hire an advanced postdoctoral research fellow with strong background in analytical chemistry. The successful applicant is expected to conduct independent research on the monitoring of emerging pollutants in the aquatic environment through advanced analytical methods. This includes the application of in-house methods for the analysis of pharmaceutical compounds in the environment, including antibiotic residues and other micropollutants in the natural environment.
Additionally, the applicant will develop and apply complementary methods for the analysis of the target contaminants in biological samples.
Experience in liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry (LC – MS) is essential and experience with high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) is recommended.
KEY DUTIES
The tasks that the contracted postdoctoral researcher will perform include:
i)Applying analytical methodologies for the analysis of antibiotics and other emerging contaminants in aqueous and biological samples;
ii) Evaluating the presence of emerging contaminants in the aquatic environment using various advanced analytical methods;
iii) Drafting protocols, scientific reports, and scientific articles;
iv) A small proportion of time will be dedicated to common services such as joint laboratory maintenance, etc.
PhD in Environmental Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science
Skills:
Experience in data handling software, field experiment and monitoring planning and sample handling and extraction as well as analysis with Mass spectrometry methods, including HRMS
Required Languages:
English and Spanish; Catalan
Required Experience:
Experience in handling and analysing environmental samples (including water, sediments and biota);
Proven experience in environmental and analytical chemistry for the determination of organic pollutants (pharmaceuticals, including antibiotics, etc.).
Experience with high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) for suspect and non-target analysis.
Any of the following skills and past research experiences will be considered in the selection process:
-Knowledge in the study of the fate of emerging pollutants in the environment
-Knowledge in the study of antimicrobial resistance AMR
-Experience in laboratory, field studies and monitoring campaigns.
-Experience in platform presentations and in paper/reports elaboration
-Ability to work independently and as a member of a team;
-Creative and flexible person, and eager to learn and to expand her/his scientific network.
