Postdoctoral Contract Opportunity: Letters of Intent Invited
Postdoctoral Position Announcement
Application Deadline: October 18, 2024
The MESON (Madrid Evolved Stars Outflows Network) research group, funded by the Spanish AEI / MICIU, is pleased to announce a postdoctoral position available in 2025. The successful candidate will contribute to the following projects:
- CRISPNESS: AGB and post-AGB Circumstellar Envelopes: Companion's Role In Shaping Nebulae of Evolved Stars (PID2023-146056NB-C21), led by Drs. J. Alcolea and M. Santander (OAN, IGN).
- Bias Mitigation in Circumstellar Envelope Studies: AGB and Post-AGB Circumstellar Envelopes: Multidiagnostic Insights (PID2023-146056NB-C22), led by Dr. C. Sánchez Contreras (CAB, CSIC-INTA).
Research Focus
The research will center on studying the physical and chemical properties of circumstellar envelopes around low-to-intermediate mass evolved stars, including AGB stars, post-AGB stars, and planetary nebulae (PNe).
Key Responsibilities
- Calibration, data reduction, and analysis of interferometric mapping (millimeter-wavelength and/or NIR/MIR) and optical/NIR spectroscopic data (long-slit/IFU) of AGBs, pPNe, and PNe.
- Modeling the continuum and spectral line emissions, including dust, molecules, and atomic or ionized gas.
- Participating in formulating and drafting proposals for innovative investigations into jet-launching structures and the role of binaries.
Desired Qualifications
Candidates should have a strong research record and possess, or be in the process of obtaining by 2025, a Ph.D. in Astrophysics or Physics.
Preferred Experience
- Research focused on evolved stars.
- High-resolution interferometry at (sub)mm wavelengths and/or mid-infrared.
- Proficiency with software such as CASA and GILDAS.
- Experience with optical spectroscopy data reduction and analysis (long-slit and/or IFU).
- Radiative transfer modeling expertise.
Application Process
Interested candidates who meet some of the above criteria are invited to submit a Letter of Intent and a CV to any of the project PIs.
Deadline: Please submit your Letter of Intent by October 18, 2024.
