Job summary

ALBA Synchrotron in Catalonia seeks a PhD-level researcher to lead metallurgical studies within the CiSMA project. You will prepare samples, run data-collection campaigns on XRD/XAS and electron microscopy facilities, and perform cross-technique analysis to understand microstructure and segregation in advanced steels.

You will develop and apply Python-based data-analysis tools, collaborate with beamline scientists and partners, and contribute to publications and project deliverables while

Qualifications

• PhD in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or related field.
• At least 2 years of demonstrable research experience in characterisation of metallic materials.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and condition steel samples for advanced characterisation and develop protocols.
• Plan and execute data-acquisition campaigns at ALBA beamlines and facilities (JEMCA).
• Analyze data to characterise phases, microstructure, precipitates, and segregation across techniques.
• Develop data-analysis methods and scientific software (Python) for automated analysis of large datasets.
• Collaborate with project partners, beamline scientists and industrial users, and disseminate results.
