Descripción del empleo

Our client is a technology-oriented company developing advanced photonic biosensing technologies for clinical diagnostic applications. The organization combines expertise in integrated photonics, chemistry, engineering, and life sciences to develop innovative in‑vitro diagnostic solutions that simplify and accelerate clinical decision‑making.

Operating in a dynamic, research‑driven environment, the company transforms cutting‑edge scientific advances into robust commercial products with meaningful impact on healthcare while fostering multidisciplinary collaboration and continuous professional growth.

Mission

The PIC Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, integration, and validation of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and the optical subsystems that incorporate them, forming the core sensing technology of next‑generation in‑vitro diagnostic platforms.

Working across the full product development lifecycle—from concept and simulation through characterization, system integration, and validation—the role will transform advanced integrated photonics technologies into robust, commercial‑grade medical diagnostic solutions.

Responsibilities
Integrated Photonics Design
  • Design, simulate, and optimize photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for biosensing applications.
  • Develop PIC layouts using industry‑standard photonic design tools such as Lumerical, KLayout, or equivalent.
  • Collaborate with fabrication partners and support PIC manufacturing, characterization, and performance optimization.
Optical System Integration
  • Design and integrate optical architectures that incorporate PICs into diagnostic instrumentation.
  • Select, evaluate, and qualify optical components, including light sources, detectors, filters, lenses, fibers, and associated optoelectronic elements.
  • Define optical alignment, calibration, and characterization procedures to ensure robust system performance.
Cross‑Functional Development
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including immunochemistry, software, mechanics, electronics, and microfluidics, to translate biological assay requirements into integrated photonic solutions.
  • Support system architecture decisions to ensure optimal interaction between photonic hardware and the complete diagnostic platform.
Validation and Technical Documentation
  • Develop and optimize photodetection and signal acquisition systems.
  • Execute verification and validation activities to ensure compliance with performance, reliability, and applicable medical device requirements.
  • Prepare design documentation, validation reports, and technical documentation supporting product development and regulatory activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Physics, Integrated Photonics, Photonics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in integrated photonics, PIC design, or optical system development.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and characterizing photonic integrated circuits.
  • Proficiency with photonic design and simulation tools such as Lumerical, KLayout, or equivalent.
  • Experience integrating PICs into complete optical systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with optical characterization equipment.
  • Strong understanding of photodetection and optical signal acquisition.
  • Familiarity with laboratory and/or cleanroom environments.
  • Professional proficiency in English.
Preferred Experience
  • PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience with silicon photonics or other integrated photonic platforms.
  • Experience in biosensors, biophotonics, or IVD/medical devices.
  • Familiarity with cleanroom microfabrication and PIC manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary product development teams.
