Sondrel is seeking an experienced Physical Design Engineer to join our growing team in Barcelona. As part of a dynamic physical implementation design team, you will be responsible for block development and potentially full chip responsibility, taking designs from RTL to GDS.
This role is ideal for a self-motivated, detail-oriented individual passionate about developing high-quality, innovative designs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independent Work: Contribute to physical design projects with minimal supervision, delivering high-quality results.
- Problem Solving: Address and resolve moderate complexity design challenges, applying sound judgment and quantitative analysis.
- Physical Design Ownership: Manage various aspects of the physical design flow, from RTL to GDS, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
- Multi-Project Management: Handle multiple assignments from different teams or clients, meeting deadlines and quality standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with experienced team members to resolve design issues using physical design tools and techniques.
- Tool Expertise: Demonstrate proficiency in tools such as Synthesis, PnR, Formal Verification, Custom Layout, Analog Simulation, or Chip Finishing.
- Documentation and White Papers: Contribute to technical white papers and presentations.
- Sales Support: Assist in sales activities, including Statement of Work preparation.
- Time Management: Maintain accurate records and manage workload effectively.
- Self-Discipline: Execute tasks efficiently, adhering to best practices and quality standards.
Key Relationships:
- Reports to: Engineering Manager / Principal Engineer
- Collaborates with: Engineers, Senior Engineers, Principal Engineers, Project Managers, Sales, Finance, HR
- Supervises: Physical Design Team (2-3 engineers)
Qualifications:
- Degree/Master's/PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Typically 5+ years of experience in physical design and implementation.
Skills & Experience:
- Experience with tapeout on multiple technologies (e.g., 5nm, 7nm, 12nm, 28nm).
- Knowledge of physical verification checks (DRC, LVS, ANTENNA, ERC).
- Understanding of synthesis, floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing, and STA.
- Proficiency with physical design tools such as Synopsys DC, Cadence RC, Mentor Calibre, Synopsys IC Validator, Formality, Formalpro.
- Problem-solving skills, both independently and in teams.
- Strong scripting skills in Tcl, Perl, or Python.
- Project management skills and ability to deliver results on schedule.
- Broad knowledge across physical design sub-functions.
