This is an exciting opportunity to work with a talented team on high-impact projects, pushing the boundaries of digital design in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Sondrel is looking for a Physical Design Engineer to join our growing team in Barcelona. You will be responsible for block development and potentially full chip responsibility, taking designs from RTL to GDS.

This role is ideal for a self-motivated, detail-oriented individual passionate about developing high-quality, innovative designs.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Independent Work: Contribute to physical design projects with minimal supervision, ensuring high-quality results.
  2. Problem Solving: Address and resolve moderate complexity design challenges, applying sound judgment and conducting quantitative analysis.
  3. Physical Design Ownership: Manage various aspects of the physical design flow, from RTL to GDS, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
  4. Multi-Project Management: Handle multiple assignments, meeting deadlines and quality standards.
  5. Collaboration: Work closely with team members to resolve design issues, utilizing expertise in physical design tools and techniques.
  6. Tool Proficiency: Demonstrate skills in tools such as Synthesis, PnR, Formal verification, Custom layout, Analog simulation, or Chip finishing.
  7. Documentation: Contribute to technical white papers and presentations.
  8. Sales Support: Assist in sales activities, including Statement of Work preparation.
  9. Time Management: Maintain accurate timekeeping and manage workloads effectively.
  10. Self-Discipline: Execute tasks efficiently, adhering to best practices and high standards.
Key Relationships:
  • Reports to: Engineering Manager / Principal Engineer
  • Collaborates with: Engineers, Senior Engineers, Principal Engineers, Project Managers, Sales, Finance, HR
  • Supervises: Physical Design Team (2-3 engineers)
Qualifications:
  • Degree/Masters/PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Typically 5+ years of experience in physical design and implementation.
Skills & Experience:
  • Tapeout experience on multiple technologies (e.g., 5nm, 7nm, 12nm, 28nm).
  • Experience with physical verification checks (e.g., DRC, LVS, ANTENNA, ERC).
  • Understanding of synthesis, floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing, and STA.
  • Experience with tools like Synopsys DC, Cadence RC, Mentor Calibre, Synopsys IC Validator, Formality, Formalpro.
  • Problem-solving skills, independent and team work capabilities.
  • Scripting skills in Tcl, Perl, or Python.
  • Project management skills and ability to deliver results.
  • Broad knowledge across physical design sub-functions.
