Job summary

IQS School of Engineering in Barcelona seeks a motivated candidate to join a multidisciplinary team focused on discovering and engineering carbohydrate-active enzymes for biomedical applications.

You will contribute to computational and experimental protein engineering, design enzyme candidates, and characterize their activity and specificity. The role offers doctoral training and collaboration across chemistry, biotechnology, and biomedicine.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in biotechnology, bioengineering, molecular biology, or related field.
• Experience with molecular biology techniques (cloning, expression, purification).
• Experience in protein engineering or metabolic engineering fields.
• Knowledge in bioinformatics and computational biology modelling.
• Strong teamwork and ability to work independently on projects.

Responsibilities

• Design, execution and analysis of research activities combining computational and experimental protein engineering.
• Identify and prioritize enzyme candidates; design and evaluate protein variants.
• Experimentally characterize activity, specificity and potential biomedical relevance of enzymes.
• Collaborate with researchers from complementary disciplines and maintain thorough records.
• Contribute to publications and presentations within the Department of Bioengineering.
