Descripción del empleo

PhD Position in Molecular Quantum Physics – Join our team at nanoGUNE!

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to explore the coherent control of spin states in graphene-based molecular architectures assembled on engineered superconducting platforms. The project combines low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and microwave spectroscopy, with the ambitious goal of implementing Electron Spin Resonance–STM (ESR-STM) to manipulate individual quantum spins.

This research lies at the intersection of quantum transport, spintronics, and nanotechnology, and is part of the ERC Advanced Grant CONSPIRA (ERC-AdG 101097693), led by Prof. Nacho Pascual at the CIC nanoGUNE research center in San Sebastián, Spain.

Your role will involve:

  • Developing and operating an ESR-STM system under cryogenic and ultrahigh vacuum conditions
  • Synthesizing and characterizing magnetic molecular systems on superconducting substrates
  • Probing spin dynamics and coherence at the single-spin level
  • Contributing to quantum experiments and many-body physics analysis

Your profile:

  • MSc (or equivalent) in Physics, Materials Science, Nanoscience, or related fields
  • Background in experimental condensed matter physics or nanotechnology
  • Programming skills (Python, MATLAB) and experience in data analysis
  • Prior experience with STM, low-temperature setups, or spectroscopy is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English

We foster an inclusive, collaborative environment and encourage applicants from all backgrounds.
