An established industry player is seeking enthusiastic candidates for a PhD position focused on the evolutionary drivers of Rubisco diversity. This role offers the chance to explore the complexities of one of the most crucial enzymes in plant biology, delving into its catalytic variations and molecular mechanisms. Candidates will engage in cutting-edge research, collaborate with international teams, and develop skills in biochemistry, ecophysiology, and bioinformatics. This opportunity not only fosters academic growth but also contributes to vital advancements in understanding photosynthetic performance under varying conditions. If you're passionate about plant science and eager to make an impact, this position is for you.
OFFER : PhD Candidate in exploring evolutionary and environmental drivers of Rubisco diversity - Plant Biology group at the University of the Balearic Islands
Enthusiastic and committed candidates are sought to join the research team at the University of the Balearic Islands ( – INAGEA as a PhD candidate and work on the evolution of photosynthetic traits.
Why the most important enzyme in the biosphere, Rubisco, subject to a long history of selective pressures, exhibits catalytic imperfections represents one of the most fascinating, unresolved enigmas in the field of plant science. You will work on the comprehension of this and other enigmas in relation to the functionality of the Rubisco, by exploring the natural range of the enzyme's catalytic variation and deciphering the underlying molecular mechanisms in key strategic groups during the evolution of photosynthetic domains. You will also characterize physiological (carbon concentrating mechanisms) and cellular anatomical traits, and investigate co-evolution patterns and trade-offs between these traits and Rubisco, and how they determine the photosynthetic performance of the species under variable conditions.
You will have the opportunity to learn and apply a wide range of cutting-edge and frontier methodologies from diverse fields, such as plant biochemistry, ecophysiology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics to map Rubisco variability.
