IRTA is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher for the Animal Health Program, focusing on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) with a One Health approach. The candidate will contribute to the EU-JAMRAI 2 project, aiming to combat AMR through interdisciplinary collaboration. Responsibilities include establishing environmental antimicrobial surveillance using phenotypic and genotypic tools, including next-generation sequencing (Illumina and Nanopore), and developing infection prevention and control (IPC) programs in veterinary medicine.

We invite applications from candidates with relevant research experience and a passion for antimicrobial stewardship and AMR surveillance.

Tasks and Responsibilities :

  • Applying AMR surveillance using phenotypic and genotypic tools including Next Generation Sequencing Technologies (Illumina and Nanopore).
  • Identifying and describing key components for IPC in veterinary medicine and evaluating them in practice-oriented case studies.
  • Performing literature reviews, data collection, management, and statistical analysis.
  • Contributing to high-impact projects in data science related to antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Executing scientific and technical tasks, planning, and executing studies to meet research milestones.
  • Publishing peer-reviewed articles and presenting at conferences.
  • Reporting progress through reports.
  • Collaborating effectively within the research team and program.

Required Qualifications and Experience :

  • PhD in Life Sciences, Veterinary Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, or related fields.
  • Experience with bioinformatics software and data processing for Illumina and Nanopore (NGS).
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and data analysis software.
  • Research skills including literature review, experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing.
  • Experience managing surveys and databases.
  • Strong communication and dissemination skills.
  • Ability to develop collaborative research links internationally.
  • Knowledge of Spanish to communicate with veterinarians.
  • Understanding of One Health, zoonotic diseases, and AMR research.
  • Experience supervising BSc and MSc students.
  • Proven experience in securing public and private funding.

Languages

  • High proficiency in English and Spanish.

Terms of Appointment

Temporary position for 2 years, with a possible extension of one year.
