Descripción del empleo

What's Barkibu? Hey there! Barkibu is a tech company dedicated to ensuring dogs and cats receive the medical care they need without the worry of high expenses. We envision a world where every pet can access top-tier healthcare without financial barriers. Our mission is to support pets and their owners for a joyful, thriving life together.

We’re a team of pet lovers from Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Croatia, Russia, Morocco, Argentina, Brazil, Romania, Italy, Poland, and Portugal. We are currently seeking a Software Engineer with an analytical mindset to help scale our engineering systems and technical infrastructure as we expand internationally. We operate in 7 countries: Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Greece, and Finland. Join us and be part of our exciting journey!

As a Software Engineer...

You will be part of our Claims team, responsible for the full development lifecycle of the reimbursement claims decision-making process for our clients. Your work will involve analyzing veterinary documents and invoices, and implementing automated validation systems to determine coverage eligibility. This process handles over €50 million annually in reimbursements, offering a high-impact opportunity to save €2 million for the company.

The Claims team focuses on automating pet health insurance claims processing, a critical challenge for us. When pet parents visit the vet, they request reimbursement via our app by uploading documents such as invoices, veterinary reports, and sometimes medical history. Your role will involve analyzing these documents to make accurate coverage decisions, managing complex scenarios like pre-existing conditions, waiting periods, and invoice evaluations according to policy terms.

You will work on innovative solutions using OCR to extract text from documents, LLMs to interpret medical language, and business rules to apply policy conditions. Your contributions will help:

  • Minimize claim resolution times
  • Automate validation of coverage conditions
  • Improve user experience and transparency
  • Detect potential fraud or inconsistencies
  • Support our veterinary team with AI-assisted decision-making

Additionally, we are building a large database of structured clinical data that will enable future innovations.

What we’re looking for...

You are curious, interested in working with various frameworks and languages, and eager to help shape the future of pet insurance with data, intelligence, and empathy. Unlike many companies, at Barkibu, you will take ownership of features from idea to deployment, wearing many hats such as:

  • A Business Analyst, understanding user needs and product requirements
  • A Project Manager, leading initiatives from start to finish
  • A QA Specialist, ensuring high-quality releases
  • A DevOps engineer, maintaining our infrastructure

You have experience tackling complex challenges, are fluent in English (Spanish is a plus), and possess a product mindset focused on growth. You thrive in fast-paced environments, manage tasks efficiently, and work seamlessly across teams.

What we offer...
  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Permanent contract (40h/week)
  • Remote work from anywhere in Spain
  • Great work-life balance
  • Support for continuous learning (€1,000/year)
  • Flexible time off and 23 days of annual leave
  • Free online English classes
  • Subsidized private health insurance
  • Monthly aid for gym, physiotherapy, and therapy
  • Tax-free benefits (restaurant, kindergarten, transportation)
  • Pet insurance coverage
  • Referral bonus

Start date: ASAP. We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
