Offer Description
The Science and Technology Park Foundation (FCPCT) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) offers one project technician position (ICP1 – MECES 4) to work in the EU PHAROS project.
The Institute of Oceanography and Global Change (IOCAG) of the ULPGC includes among its lines of research and development the so-called “Algae Biotechnology”.
Within the framework of the aforementioned line of research, on 14/05/2024 the PHAROS project was formalized between the European Commission and the ULPGC, whose purpose is to carry out three demonstrations in the Atlantic using solutions based on nature and integrated multi-trophic aquaculture and adapted to regional needs to protect marine ecosystems, reduce pollution and achieve a carbon neutral blue economy by 2030, with a completion date of August 31, 2029.
The University will recruit the best candidate following the recommendations of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. Candidates must comply with the following conditions:
Degrees: Hold a PhD degree (MECES 4) in the field of Experimental Sciences (Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Marine Sciences, Biology, Chemistry or equivalent).
Candidates with degrees obtained in foreign countries must prove that they are in possession of the corresponding validation or the credential that accredits, where applicable, the homologation. Exceptionally, this requirement may be proved during the first six months of the contract.
In the case of applicants with non-approved foreign degrees, these must be translated into Spanish or English. The name of the foreign degree must match that required in the call.
Additional Information
This contract is related to specific work and services to be developed by the ULPGC in the context of the PHAROS project.
Type of contract: Indefinite-term contract for scientific-technical activities, based on article 23 bis of Law 14/2011, of 1 June, on Science, Technology and Innovation, and other regulatory regulations.
The purpose of this contract is to carry out scientific and technical activities related to the PHAROS project, whose thematic area is linked to the research line called “Algae Biotechnology” of the ULPGC, a project which the ULPGC is developing under the agreement signed on 14/05/2024 with the European Commission and whose estimated completion date is 31/08/2029.
Hiring planned for May 2025.
The staff to be recruited through this call for proposals with an indefinite contract is not considered permanent staff under any circumstances. The awarding of the employment contract does not imply any commitment on the part of this Foundation, the University or its dependent entities as to the subsequent incorporation of the interested party into the staff of these entities.
The contract may be terminated for any of the reasons provided for in Royal Legislative Decree 2/2015, of 23 October, approving the revised text of the Workers' Statute Law, or in the rest of the applicable legislation, paying special attention to letter e) of article 52 of the aforementioned RDL 2/2015: insufficiency of the financial allocation of the corresponding appropriation for the maintenance of the employment contract.
The dedication will be 37.5 hours per week, with exclusive dedication to the project being essential.
The gross monthly remuneration will amount to 2,153.85 € / month (including the proportional part of the special payments) as well as € 500.00 as complementary salary.
The place of work will be in the facilities The Spanish Bank of Algae, Muelle de Taliarte, s/n 35214 - Telde Gran Canaria – España.
A trial period of six months will be established during which the employment relationship may be terminated at the request of either party. Situations of temporary incapacity, maternity, and adoption or fostering, which affect the worker during the trial period, will interrupt the calculation of the trial period.
Eligibility criteria
The following items and scores will be considered to evaluate the application:
Complementary training (Max. 1 point): Specific courses related to techniques and management of processed cultivation systems, design of production systems, characterization and valuation of algae biomass (0.25 points per course of at least 20 hours, up to a maximum of 1 point).
Languages (Max. 1 point): C1 or higher (1 point) or B2 (0.5 points)
Selection process
Those applicants who achieve the three highest scores in the merit assessment phase will be called for an interview. The interview will be conducted in Spanish and/or totally or partially in English, according to the level required for the position. The selected applicants will be summoned, by e-mail, at least three days in advance. The evaluation of the interview will be carried out, up to a maximum of 10 points, based on the following criteria, being necessary a minimum score of 5 points in the interview to be awarded the position:
In case it is necessary, a second interview may be carried out, in order to clarify, complement or deepen in certain aspects necessary to adequately assess this phase.
Once this phase of the selection process is completed, the Commission will publish, on the corporate website of the FCPCT of the ULPGC, a final list with the scores of the applicants interviewed, for which the score or evaluation obtained in the merit assessment phase and in the interview, ordered from highest to lowest score, will be accumulated. This list will be submitted to the Managing Director of the FCPCT, proposing the awarding of the position, according to the score obtained by the applicants.
The Commission may propose the creation of a reserve list in the event of resignation, failure to meet the requirements, or failure to pass the probationary period of the initially designated applicant; future substitutions due to illness, maternity/paternity, etc.; as well as for new positions in the same category. In this case, the reserve list shall be valid for a period of one year from the date of its publication or until a new call for applications is published. Likewise, the Commission may propose to declare the vacancy vacant.
