Our values (Passion, Responsibility, Transparency, Creativity, and Humility) are very important to us, and all our actions are aligned with them. We are pioneers in sustainable tourism (check out our Wave of Change movement to learn more).

Your main mission: The Nature-based Solutions Projects Coordinator will help coordinate and lead Nature-based Solutions Projects at properties (hotels) in the EMEA Region (Europe and North Africa) through science-based protection, restoration, and management of ecosystems in and around the properties of Iberostar.

Location: The role is based at our headquarters in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

What will your day-to-day work be like? Reporting to the Head of Nature-based Solutions, you'll be in charge of:

  1. Strategic: Work with the NbS Team to identify, define, and create strategies and actions to reduce environmental risk, improve and restore ecosystem services, and enhance biodiversity.
  2. Define research needs and develop projects and project proposals to meet those needs.
  3. Manage multiple projects, successfully aligning with overall NbS goals, and coordinating with others to accomplish tasks.
  4. Administrative: Manage consultants and partners, in coordination with the Head of NbS, providing guidance, monitoring progress, reviewing deliveries, and making recommendations.
  5. Manage and process quotes and invoicing using established protocols.
  6. Manage and oversee assigned budgets.
  7. Complete administrative work required and coordinate with the sustainability staff to ensure compliance with requirements.
  8. Operational: Implement science-driven actions to meet the NbS conservation strategy at the destination level, creating timelines, identifying stakeholders, monitoring, and reporting.
  9. Document progress in a way that generates reports and results of publishable quality.
  10. Work with the Regreening Coordinator in the implementation of the invasive species and regreening strategy.
  11. Work with the properties to successfully implement projects and actions.
  12. Scientific: Coordinate with the science team to identify research gaps for strategy implementation.
  13. Help coordinate site visits for the science team.
  14. Support data collection, if needed.
  15. Work with the science team in the development of experimental designs for implementation within the coordinator's area of responsibility.
  16. Use the advice received from the science team and sustainability office to make project decisions.
  17. Representation and coordination: Coordinate with the NbS, Wave of Change, and Sustainability teams.
  18. Engage with local government, NGOs, academia, businesses, and any other relevant actors to accomplish the objectives.
  19. When requested, represent the Nature-based Solutions department at meetings and conferences.
  20. Coordinate in-person meetings with local NGOs, foundations, or government agencies as needed to ensure the implementation of the NbS strategy.
  21. Represent Iberostar at other functions and assignments which can include serving as an institutional representative, forming part of a committee, supporting grant writing and implementation, and serving as a subject specialist at targeted events.

Who is the ideal person for this position? The successful candidate must have a strong foundational understanding of ecology, preferably coastal and ocean ecology.
