About Us

We are a European startup dedicated to developing cutting-edge, automated wind-assisted propulsion systems. We aim to provide a turnkey solution for shipowners and shipping companies seeking to reduce fuel costs and emissions. Our vision is simple yet ambitious—we aim to power the world with wind.

Imagine a world where the vast oceans are effortlessly traversed using the clean and boundless power of the wind. At bound4blue, we are turning this dream into reality. We're not just creating wind propulsion systems but revolutionizing the maritime industry, one sustainable voyage at a time. While bringing sails back to ships may seem challenging, we are more than prepared for it. We are innovators who understand the perfect harmony between nature and technology.

About the Role

The Naval Structural Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the structural integrity and performance of our wind-assisted propulsion system, the eSAIL, by contributing a strong naval architecture perspective to the product development process. This position involves structural design and calculation of marine components, as well as integration with cross-functional teams to optimize performance, safety, and reliability.

The engineer will work closely with engineering departments, providing technical expertise in ship structure and behaviour, and ensuring that our innovations are aligned with naval engineering standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural calculations and design of components to be installed on vessels, ensuring compliance with marine standards and classification requirements.
  • Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) using Ansys and contribute to 3D design using SolidWorks.
  • Support the development and certification of structural parts by providing clear documentation and collaborating with classification societies.
  • Provide input during concept development, feasibility analysis, and design iterations of the eSAIL.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure design feasibility, including mechanical integration, installation constraints, and operational conditions at sea.
  • Participate in testing, validation, and continuous improvement of structural components.
  • Contribute to the development of internal design guidelines and documentation standards.
  • Liaise with suppliers, external partners, and customers when required to support technical discussions related to naval structural performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering.
  • 2–5 years of professional experience in structural design and analysis of marine vessels or components.
  • Proven experience performing structural calculations and working with relevant marine codes and standards.
  • Proficiency in Ansys for structural analysis and SolidWorks for CAD design.
  • Understanding of ship structures, loads, and fatigue in marine environments.
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules from classification societies (e.g., DNV, ABS, BV).
  • Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to engineering challenges.
  • Good communication skills in English (written and verbal).
