The National Sales Director (NSD) role is both strategic and operational, focusing on operationalizing the sales force plan to achieve results with strategic business inputs both within and outside sales. The NSD is jointly accountable with local management for sales development in the country, supporting local market access development, implementing, managing, and flexing sales resources to support the adoption of QUVIVIQ. The NSD will work closely with the client as a key member of their local leadership team to drive compliant sales success with the field teams, promoting QUVIVIQ with a new Mode of Action (MoA). They will line manage all deployed Regional Business Managers (RBMs) and their associated field-based product specialist teams across secondary care, specifically psychiatry. The NSD will play a key leadership role in operational planning and executing the sales and marketing plan, creating a positive and performance-driven culture. They will collaborate with internal teams and client stakeholders to support the performance and execution of QUVIVIQ sales services in the country, including field targeting, resource allocation, market access plans, field activity planning, call effectiveness, and active performance monitoring. The person will ensure seamless collaboration across different field teams (Sales, Market Access, Medical).
Job Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Sales Leadership
- Lead and manage the deployed field commercial team to develop and drive sales, proactively addressing challenges.
- Conduct regular business reviews with RBMs and the client to identify challenges and opportunities, taking appropriate actions.
- Work with VP Commercial and internal solutions teams to optimize resources for efficiency and results.
- Participate in the broader matrix ecosystem as part of Syneos Health and the client’s Spanish team, contributing to leadership and steering committees.
- Provide second-line sales leadership and line management for RBMs and the sales team nationwide.
- Deeply understand the client strategy for QUVIVIQ to ensure successful uptake and achievement of sales targets.
- Develop in-market strategies and oversee their tactical execution.
- Ensure sales execution excellence, including targeting, activity metrics, and territory planning.
- Support reward, recognition, and motivation programs in collaboration with the client.
- Ensure the sales team has robust regional and territory business plans aligned with strategies.
- Lead regular meetings to discuss project progress, training, and operational needs.
- Collaborate with marketing to support an omnichannel approach in Spain, ensuring KPIs are met.
Compliance and Ethics
- Ensure ethical and compliant practices across the sales team, adhering to national laws and pharmaceutical promotion requirements.
- Oversee completion of SOPs and training for the team.
- Partner with medical affairs for relevant data and insights.
Performance Management
- Set high standards and manage performance challenges proactively.
- Support ongoing training and development of RBMs and sales teams.
- Coach and mentor RBMs to drive success.
- Conduct regular performance assessments and implement improvement plans as needed.
- Participate in regular client meetings to ensure KPI delivery and issue resolution.
External Influence
- Engage KEEs and influencers to advocate for QUVIVIQ with appropriate messaging.
- Develop and maintain a network of high-level healthcare contacts for advice and insights.
Reporting and Administration
- Ensure timely completion of reports, budgets, and other deliverables within set budgets.
- Collaborate with stakeholders on reporting and analytics to ensure accurate activity data.
- Approve team expenses and budgets.
- Work with the commercial business to develop integrated solutions for clients.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree or higher (e.g., MBA).
- Meet legal requirements for pharmaceutical promotion in Spain.
- Full clean driving license.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish for engagement with senior managers.
Industry Experience
- Experience in biopharmaceutical sales, market access, marketing, or operations.
- Experience in prescription pharmaceutical sales and marketing roles.
- Line management experience within biotech, pharma, or medical devices.
- Proven success in leading and motivating teams.
- Deep understanding of Spain’s market access landscape and delivering product success.
- Experience with face-to-face and omnichannel promotional activities.
- Strong network of healthcare contacts and credibility in sales and marketing.
Leadership Skills
- Demonstrated motivational leadership of sales teams.
- Strong strategic and commercial leadership abilities.
- Successful first- and second-line management experience, including product launches.
