We are looking for someone with experience as an ML Ops Engineer to join a pharma sector project team and our Enterprise AI Products and Technology Team. The ideal candidate will have industry-relevant experience delivering Machine Learning or Data Science projects at scale.

You will be part of a collaborative team of multidisciplinary engineers, working closely with data science teams, with opportunities to create tools, standards, and automate common tasks in the machine learning product lifecycle. A part of the role involves enhancing platform capabilities to better support data scientists' workflows. Our data science teams undertake major AI initiatives such as clinical trial data analysis, knowledge graph analytics, patient safety systems, deep learning-driven drug discovery, and medical device software systems.

As an ML Ops engineer, you will bring a software engineering mindset towards automation and agility, questioning and improving data science workflows.

Your responsibilities will include :

• Collaborating with Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers to understand their challenges and develop supporting tools and platforms.
• Participating in a high-performing agile team to improve AstraZeneca’s ML development environments, platforms, and tooling.
• Working with governance and compliance functions such as Cyber Security and Data Privacy to secure our estate without hindering productivity.
• Adapting standard ML methods to leverage modern parallel environments (distributed clusters, multicore SMP, GPU).
• Promoting a “production first” mindset to scale research to production seamlessly.

Required experience :

• BSc / MSc / Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field.
• Experience in software engineering and automation with DevOps.
• Experience with deploying production-grade ML products or strong software engineering skills.
• At least 3 years of experience with Python; proficiency in other programming languages is a plus.
• Knowledge of container orchestration frameworks (e.g., Airflow, Argo, Kubeflow) or willingness to learn.
• Experience deploying ML / Data Science infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience working in Agile teams.
• Familiarity with security standards and frameworks.
