The CML Advocates Network (CMLAN) is an active international network for leaders of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) patient groups. It connects 131 patient organisations across the globe in 96 countries and aims at facilitating and supporting best practice sharing among patient advocates worldwide. The network is hosted under the Leukemia Patient Advocates Foundation (LePAF), a patient-led non-profit based in Switzerland, serving as a legal platform for self-sustained patient advocacy initiatives. The network is governed by a Steering Committee of six CML patient advocates representing major regions of the world and the three co-founders of the network.
The CML Advocates Network is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This role offers an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, motivated, strategic, and visionary individual to serve the global CML community and support those affected by this rare, chronic condition.
Roles and Responsibilities
The CEO will lead the management of the CML Advocates Network, reporting directly to the chair and indirectly to the Steering Committee. Responsibilities include:
Governance
- Leading the network, supporting its mission, and implementing its vision, strategy, and priorities.
- Communicating effectively with the Steering Committee and providing necessary information for informed decision-making.
- Ensuring good governance of the network.
Financial Performance and Viability
- Overseeing fiscal integrity, including annual budget submission and financial management.
- Preparing financial statements and reports.
- Developing fundraising strategies to ensure financial sustainability.
- Meeting legal and fiscal requirements of the Swiss foundation hosting the network.
Strategy and Operations
- Developing and evaluating the strategic plan and ensuring effective implementation of programs and projects.
- Maintaining relationships with member organizations and stakeholders.
- Conducting regular meetings with the Chair and overseeing operational activities.
Network Operations & HR
- Managing daily operations, policies, staff, and contracts.
- Ensuring staff performance and conducting regular meetings.
- Analyzing external and internal environments for opportunities.
Communications
- Representing the organization publicly and overseeing communication strategies.
- Building partnerships and responding to stakeholder needs.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Required skills include:
- Experience in executive leadership within non-profit organizations.
- Skills in motivation, relations, problem solving, and grant writing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and experience with funding and project proposals.
- Background in lobbying, legal matters, and medical conference speaking.
- Experience in strategic planning, team building, and legal compliance.
- Knowledge of website management and relevant tools like QuickBooks Online.
- Experience as a patient reviewer or in patient-related content creation is a plus.
Additional Conditions
- Location: preferably within an EU Member State.
- Willingness to travel approximately 30 days per year.
- Flexibility to work outside standard hours and on weekends if necessary.
