Abacus Medicine Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Medical Advisor passionate about rare diseases to join our Medical Team in Madrid. This role involves engaging with leading specialists to improve product value and drive medical strategies related to current and future product launches.

The ideal candidate will have a medical/scientific degree and substantial experience in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in medical affairs. Fluency in Spanish and strong communication skills are essential for success.

Formación

  • 5+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience in Medical Affairs or scientific engagement roles highly valuable.
  • Fluency in Spanish and excellent English skills required.

We are looking for a dedicated Medical Advisor with a passion for rare diseases to join our Medical Team to drive medical strategy and specialist engagements.

The Position

As Medical Advisor your purpose is to improve client product value by being a scientific expert, responsible for discussing products, patient treatment trends and studies in diverse therapy areas with a defined audience of Leading Specialists (Surgeons, Physicians, Pharmacists, Board Members of Scientific Societies, and other partners) as a trusted scientific counterpart and partner.

The Medical Advisor will report directly to the Country Manager, Abacus Pharma Spain. The location for the role is in Madrid.

Key Responsibilities

In your role as medical advisor your responsibility will be to:

  • Serve as the reference person for medical input in client acquisition and in support of local operations.
  • Play an integral role in the ongoing relationship with clients.
  • Supporting the development, management and maintenance of relationships with key specialists and prescribers through virtual and field visits, understanding their needs, key value drivers and practical treatment patterns and using this information to build a knowledge portfolio that supports client’s product strategy.
  • Together with key groups of specialists, external experts, develop, at local level, advisory, collaborative and/or educational activities aligned with the client’s strategy.
  • Advise on sound medical launch strategy, messaging – and engagement plans and support resource allocation in collaboration with cross-functional colleagues involved in product launches.
  • Continuously update your own knowledge of products, patient’s treatment trends and clinical activities and studies within the therapeutic area in the region and consistently convey your knowledge to stakeholder groups, turning insight into action.
  • Be involved in developing processes and tools to support the further development of the department.
Qualifications
  • Medical (MD, PharmD, PhD) or scientific degree preferred (Medicine, Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences, or similar).
  • Experience in Medical Affairs, clinical environments, or scientific engagement roles is highly valuable. That could be experience as Medical Advisor, Medical Science Liaison (MSL), Medical Affairs Manager, Clinical Specialist, or similar scientific engagement role.
  • 5+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience or strong interest in cardiovascular disease, cardiovascular surgery, critical care, hospital specialties, rare diseases, or related therapeutic areas is a strong advantage.
  • Able to speak Spanish fluently and excellent verbal and written skills in English.
  • Approximately 20-30 % of your time will be spent travelling.
