Novanta Inc. is seeking a Mechatronics Engineering Intern to support tooling development, mechanical design, manufacturing, and prototyping.

You will implement and validate mechanical assemblies, generate technical documentation, and gain hands-on experience with CAD tools, manufacturing equipment, and lab testing. You will work with a cross-functional team to meet project objectives, perform tolerance analyses, and contribute to data-driven recommendations while expanding your knowledge in

Formación

• Pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Familiar with CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
• Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Interest in mechanical design, prototyping, 3D printing and electronics manufacturing.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsabilidades

• Design and develop mechanical components, tooling, fixtures, and prototypes using 3D CAD.
• Assemble, test, troubleshoot, and debug electromechanical systems and tooling.
• Perform validation, tolerance analysis, and performance testing.
• Create and maintain engineering docs including drawings, instructions, test reports, and BOMs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional team to support project objectives with data-driven recommendations.

Job Summary The Mechatronics Engineering Intern supports internal mechatronic activities related to tooling development, mechanical design, manufacturing, and prototyping. The intern contributes to the implementation and validation of mechanical assemblies and tooling equipment while generating and maintaining technical documentation. This position provides hands‑on experience applying mechanical engineering principles using CAD tools, manufacturing equipment, and laboratory testing methods.

Job Description (primary responsibilities)

• Supporting the design and development of mechanical components, tooling equipment, fixtures, and prototype systems using 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
• Performing hands‑on assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of electromechanical systems, prototypes, and internal tooling.
• Executing validation and verification activities, including tolerance analysis, form‑fit‑function evaluations, and performance testing.
• Creating and maintaining engineering documentation, including assembly instructions, drawings, test reports, and bills of materials.
• Collaborating with a cross‑functional engineering team to support project objectives and provide data‑driven recommendations.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
• Be familiar with CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
• Have a basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Have an interest in mechanical design, prototyping, 3D printing and electronics manufacturing processes, and hands‑on engineering work.
• Working collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision is crucial for effective teamwork.
• Possess strong problem‑solving, organizational, and communication skills.
