Halyard is a highly skilled multidisciplinary engineering company providing services including site studies, design, procurement, cost control, program management, construction management, and commissioning in the mining and utilities sectors.

Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, we work closely with our wholly owned subsidiary Micon International, with offices in Toronto, Cornwall, and Norwich, UK. This contractor role based in Spain will collaborate with the Toronto engineering team as we develop our presence in the region and assess opportunities for long-term growth.

The role of the Designer is essential within our engineering team. This position requires versatility, ranging from flow sheet and P&ID development to 3D detailing work and layouts, from conceptual designs to final designs, aligned with the project lifecycle. Candidates must be able to work within tight deadlines, with some international travel, including site visits to mines, as may be required for the project.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Work collaboratively in design teams with multidiscipline engineers and project managers on international projects.
  • Handle all aspects of the design process, including creating 3D CAD models, 2D CAD drawings, bill of materials, piping isometrics, stress analysis, and equipment layout & sizing.
  • Manage small-scale projects independently, ensuring deliverables meet timelines.
  • Learn on the job, develop skills across disciplines, and stay updated with technological developments.
  • Maintain high accuracy in drawings, document, and revision control as per Halyard's quality standards.
  • Follow specifications and external design standards.
  • Participate in design and drawing reviews, updating drawings based on feedback.
  • Track working hours per project and adhere to allocated hours.
  • Take responsibility for personal work schedules and contribute to schedule updates.
  • Follow established standards, systems, and procedures within the engineering department.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities :

  • Technical Diploma or Engineering Degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in design / drafting.
  • Strong background in 3D design; experience with AutoCAD, Plant3D, Inventor, and Revit is advantageous.
  • Practical site experience, including construction and commissioning, is highly desirable.
  • Experience in designing process plants and industrial facilities, especially mineral processing plants, with emphasis on piping routing.
  • Understanding of multidisciplinary engineering activities such as structural steel, plate works, conveyors, crushers, chutes, mills, process equipment, dewatering equipment.
  • Familiarity with process design, including PFDs, P&IDs, and BFDs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative team spirit.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
