Your role: The Mechanical Cell Design Engineer oversees mechanical activities including testing, modeling, and assessment to ensure compliance with regulations. This role involves translating client requirements into mechanical specifications and leading module/cell design and validation for optimal mechanical integration.

Main functions:

  1. Mechanical Characterization
  • Conduct mechanical testing such as cell swelling characterization during charge/discharge, assessment of impacts from mechanical inhomogeneities, and optimal operating pressure evaluation.
  • Perform abusive testing related to mechanical aspects, including crush, drop, nail penetration, and pressure testing for cell sampling.
  • Mechanical Modelling
    • Develop and own cell sample designs, such as pouch cell drawings.
    • Develop dimensions and tolerances of assemblies in collaboration with process engineering to ensure manufacturing compatibility.
    • Design solutions to mitigate energy loss, aging, costs, and thermal management issues, considering heat dissipation, thermal propagation, and mechanical buffers.
    • Participate in validation result reviews to ensure design requirements are met.
    • Collaborate on DFMEA and with battery simulation engineers to analyze performance related to thermal and swelling behavior.
    • Validate mechanical requirements for cell integration into modules or packs.
    • Coordinate work with suppliers and internal stakeholders to address quality and manufacturability at different sample phases.
