The Manufacturing Engineer II will be responsible for leading, developing and improving manufacturing processes to increase overall effectiveness and efficiency, and drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organization. Position will also be heavily involved in the new product development process, ensuring the proper design for manufacturability and smooth transition from design to production. Will work closely with Quality Assurance to investigate and resolve quality issues. Actively lead the set-up processes and the commissioning of new machines or production areas, as well as provide technical support in the preventive or corrective maintenance of production means.
Responsible for practicing a high level of business ethics and professionalism and adhering to safety and quality guidelines in support of Samson strategy and core values.
Responsibilities:
- Lead in continuing improvement methodologies and lean manufacturing principles in re-designing production processes to accommodate changes in the business and growth initiatives. For example, Kaizen Events and Value Stream Mapping.
- Constantly be searching for new and innovative ways to drive down the total cost of manufacturing.
- Responsible for creating standard operating procedures at both facilities and leading projects to review standardization between facilities to ensure best practice procedures are utilized at each facility.
- Identify/implement improvements in manufacturing processes to meet and exceed set targets in quality, customer issues and waste reduction.
- Identify opportunities for improvement through data trending and analysis utilizing data analysis tools.
- Evaluate and develop manufacturing processes by designing and researching best practices; applying knowledge of product design, factory capabilities, materials, and quality control standards; conferring with a broad range of internal and external resources.
- Reviews feasibility of engineering changes and the effect on processes, methods, production, tooling, and other related attributes of manufacturing.
- Engage with New Product Development engineering during the design cycle to ensure design for manufacturability to ensure efficient and capable production methods and processes.
- Conduct capacity analysis of production cells to evaluate the need of both human and capital resources. Will extend the capacity analysis to manufacturing plant to give a holistic view of capacities.
- Engage with equipment vendors to determine machine specifications to meet production demand.
- Prepare and justify capital request (CIP) for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing the startup and validation of new equipment to ensure all components and final assemblies achieve critical quality and performance specifications.
- Work directly supporting Quality or taking ownership on quality issues, determination of root cause analysis and implementation of process or product fixes.
- Acts a technical liaison to Quality and Engineering in first article inspection of outsourced products.
- Carryout research into manufacturing processes and measurement tools to be utilized in assessing the overall effectiveness and efficiencies of manufacturing operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field, preferably in manufacturing, industrial or mechanical engineering. Experience, technical or military training may be substituted for education.
- Experience: 3+ years experience as an engineer in a manufacturing environment.
- Language: Ability to fluently speak English.
Salary:
€35,000 - €45,000 depending on experience. Potential for annual bonus.
Other required knowledge skills, abilities:
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Advanced computer skills including use of Microsoft Office, AutoCad, and/or SolidWorks, JMP or other data analysis tool.
- Training or understanding of work simplification, process analysis, work measurement, manufacturing design, quality control, ergonomics, material handling, and additional manufacturing engineering principles.
- Training or solid understanding of core Lean principles, such as 5S, Kanban, Cellular Manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance, Setup Reduction, Visual Controls, etc.
- Proven experience with continuous improvement efforts and Lean Implementation as well as development of standard operating procedures.
- Knowledge of New Product Development and Design for Manufacturability Process.
- Work effectively individually or as part of a team, treating all team members with mutual respect and building strong cohesive relationships.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company.
- Ability to deliver excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong knowledge in machine mechanics, with hydraulics and electricity being highly valued.
- Ability to make recommendations on changes in approach, concepts, and the design of solutions as a member of a team.
- Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily working in an office environment with regular exposure to manufacturing environment.
- Must follow all Samson safety guidelines and diligently use the required personal protective equipment when in the manufacturing facility to include hearing protection, safety glasses, and steel toed shoes.
- Able to travel up to 10% of the time.
- Lift up to 20 pounds occasionally. May seldom lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to twist/turn, reach over shoulders and stand/walk on a prolonged basis while performing work on the manufacturing floor.
