Our product management team comprises technologists passionate about delivering market-shaping products and solutions that promote open source software globally. This application track is for product management roles at all levels, including team leads. As a manager, you will lead and mentor product managers, set a clear vision, prioritize effectively, and ensure high-quality product delivery aligned with business and user needs. We value leadership, communication, technical vision, and strategic thinking to drive product strategy for future business needs. During interviews, we will identify suitable software products that match your interests.

We believe open source is transforming enterprise solutions and will continue to expand into specialized markets. Our goal is to make open source easier, reliable, and secure, aiming to provide 'most software to most companies,' starting with Ubuntu and expanding across all applications and compute classes. We select product managers for their intellect and drive to advance open source, aiming to improve quality, outreach, and impact. Our product managers define vision and strategy, pushing technological boundaries and delivering into new and existing markets.

Ideal candidates are technology professionals with a software engineering background aspiring to become business executives or entrepreneurs. They will engage in strategy discussions, product planning, engagement driving, and promoting the open source ethos. Responsibilities include managing the entire product lifecycle, blending technical expertise, strategic thinking, analytics, project management, and communication to meet user and business needs.

  • Ubuntu Platform (Desktop, Server, WSL, Multipass, Gaming, Hardware)
  • Ubuntu Pro Services (Compliance, Security, Managed Services)
  • IoT (Embedded devices, edge servers, robotics)
  • Cloud (Public/private cloud, Kubernetes, MAAS, LXD)
  • Telco (Core Network, RAN/vRAN, SmartNICs)
  • Finance (Trading platforms, blockchain, AI analytics)
  • Automotive (Autonomous driving, infotainment, connected vehicles)
  • Application Management (Observability, IAM, App Stores, Grafana, Juju)

This role entails:

  • Leading product development lifecycle and setting priorities
  • Collaborating with engineering, design, marketing, and sales
  • Addressing project challenges, aligning priorities, and enabling informed decisions
  • Conducting market research, industry trend analysis, and customer feedback gathering
  • Communicating product vision, updates, and decisions
  • Performing usability testing and iterating on the product
  • Developing go-to-market strategies and supporting documentation and training
  • Supporting sales efforts and participating in customer meetings
  • Mentoring product managers and ensuring strategy consistency
  • Overseeing multiple product lines and facilitating cross-department collaboration
