Position Summary

The Manager, Energy Storage Applications Engineering, provides technical expertise to support Canadian Solar’s energy storage solutions. The manager will drive the pre-sales activities of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including system sizing, data analysis, preliminary design, cost estimating, financial optimization, and value engineering. Additionally, the Manager will collaborate with the commercial and engineering teams to develop proposals for new storage project opportunities and provide technical support to meet customer needs.

Pre-sales Engineering & Design

  1. Serve as a technical liaison for the sales team to customers, and an expert resource for product specifications and value engineering discussions.
  2. Analyze RFP or other customer documentation to determine project scope, schedule, specifications, risk, and technical requirements.
  3. Prepare technical documentation for proposals and coordinate the bid package preparation with other departments.
  4. Work closely with sales, engineering, and procurement to ensure complete and shared understanding of project priorities.
  5. Conduct technical presentations and provide clarification to customers and other departments.
  6. Develop size models and conceptual drawings (Electrical One-line Diagrams, Site Layouts, etc.) in collaboration with other Applications Engineers.
  7. Establish and maintain engineering and design criteria, standards, and specifications for BESS projects in collaboration with the engineering team.
  8. Perform site visits and BESS field inspections as needed.
  9. Coordinate in-house estimating activities, including relevant drawings and specifications.
  10. Coordinate RFPs with major subcontractors, including scopes of work for electrical installations and design.
  11. Investigate alternative sources for equipment and subcontractors in collaboration with procurement.

Requirements & Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably Electrical); a graduate degree is strongly preferred.
  2. Several years of experience in applications and/or systems engineering with an energy storage integrator, consulting firm, developer, or OEM.
  3. Direct experience with utility-scale battery energy storage systems or solar PV plants.
  4. Background in power electronics or power systems is a plus.
  5. Exceptional technical aptitude, including the ability to read and understand engineering schematics, advisory reports, and technology reviews.
  6. Solid understanding of regulatory standards in the UK and Europe related to energy storage and grid-interactive inverters.
  7. Global perspective and experience working across diverse cultures in a multinational environment is beneficial.
  8. A proactive professional with a can-do attitude.
  9. Ability to interact positively and collaborate across various disciplines and levels.
  10. Comfortable working in a dynamic and fluid environment.
  11. Excellent time management skills, capable of handling multiple projects and issues concurrently.
