Who we are looking for
We are looking for a Senior R&D Engineer with a startup mindset to develop cutting-edge liquid crystal optical components for near-eye displays. You will participate in all phases of product development from planning, through design to manufacturing. The main objective is to lead an R&D line to deliver a sub-component for the final product.
Responsibilities
- Design liquid crystal optical elements with desired specifications
- Simulate optical performance of liquid crystal optical elements
- Experimentally develop and test liquid crystal optical elements
- Work closely with the internal Manufacturing Team and external Industry Partners
- Work closely with the Intellectual Property Team
- Establish and maintain relationships with universities and research centers
Technical skills
Absolute essentials
- Design of liquid crystal optical elements
- Simulations of optical performance of liquid crystal optical elements
- Experimental testing of liquid crystal optical elements using commercial and simple custom optical setups (UV / VIS spectroscopy, image quality characterization)
- Understanding of relationship between material properties and optical performance of liquid crystal optical elements
- Hands-on experience with liquid crystal gratings
Valuable extras
- Experience with conceptualization of patents
- Hands-on experience in working with alignment layers
- Knowledge of methods of manufacturing of liquid crystal optical elements
- Experience working with large manufacturers of liquid crystal optical elements
- Understanding the physics of light propagation through refractive and diffractive optics
Education
What education you have
- 7+ years of experience in a relevant industry and a Master’s degree in a Physical science or Engineering
- Alternatively : 5+ years of experience in a relevant industry and a PhD degree in Optics, Photonics or Nanomaterials with a focus on liquid crystal optical elements
