Hitachi Energy in Madrid is seeking a Lead Civil Engineer to drive civil activities for high and medium voltage substation projects across Europe. You will lead design, calculations and documentation from basic engineering to as-built stages, coordinating multidisciplinary teams with customers and suppliers to deliver safe, high-quality, cost-effective solutions.

Formación

• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years experience in civil engineering and/or site construction for substations.
• Expertise in substation civil design, engineering, and construction execution.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
• Knowledge of BIM methodology.
• Strong commitment to health, safety and quality standards.

Responsabilidades

• Lead and coordinate civil engineering activities for substation and power quality projects.
• Ensure quality, completeness and functionality of civil scope throughout project execution.
• Deliver civil designs, calculations, and documentation from basic engineering to as-built.
• Provide technical guidance during engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
• Assist project managers in assessing changes, risks, costs and schedules.
• Prepare work plans, resource estimates and risk assessments.
• Support site activities with planning, supervision and reporting.
• Coach and support engineers while building strong customer relationships.

At Hitachi Energy, we are establishing and developing an Operation Center of Excellence in Madrid, Spain (ESOPC) within the Grid & Power Quality Solutions business in Europe (HBUEU).

As a Lead Civil Engineer you will be the technical authority for civil engineering activities in High and Medium Voltage Substation projects across Europe. Working with international project teams, customers, and suppliers, you will drive the delivery of safe, high-quality, and cost-effective solutions from design through construction.

This role offers the opportunity to lead complex projects, influence key technical decisions, and contribute to the energy transition.

How you’ll make an impact

• Lead and coordinate all civil engineering activities for substation and power quality projects.
• Ensure the quality, completeness, and functionality of the civil scope throughout project execution.
• Deliver civil designs, calculations, and technical documentation from basic engineering to as-built stages.
• Provide technical guidance and recommendations during engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
• Support project and contract managers in assessing scope changes, claims, risks, costs, and schedule impacts.
• Prepare civil engineering work plans, resource estimates, and risk assessments.
• Support site activities through planning, supervision, reporting, and resolution of technical issues.
• Coach and support engineers and project teams while building strong customer relationships.

Your background

• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• More than 10 years of experience in civil engineering and/or site construction for high- or medium-voltage substations.
• Strong expertise in substation civil design, engineering, and construction execution.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and external engineering partners.
• Knowledge of BIM methodology.
• Strong commitment to health, safety, and quality standards.
