Job Description

Designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs software programs for Linux Kernel Filesystems, specializing in BTRFS.

Responsibilities
  • Developing BTRFS in the upstream Linux Kernel community.
  • Maintaining, supporting, and bug fixing SUSE's product lines in the filesystems domain.
  • Participating in Linux Kernel community activities such as patch reviews and feature suggestions.
  • Managing inter-company relations with other companies developing BTRFS and other filesystems projects.
  • Developing organization-wide architectures and methodologies for software systems design and development across multiple platforms and organizations within the Global Business Unit.
  • Identifying and evaluating new technologies, innovations, and outsourced development partner relationships for alignment with the technology roadmap and business value; creating plans for integration and updates into architecture.
  • Reviewing and evaluating designs and project activities for compliance with development guidelines and standards; providing tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.
  • Leveraging domain expertise, business acumen, and experience to influence decisions of executive leadership, outsourced development partners, and industry standards groups.
  • Providing guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff members to promote software systems design and development excellence.
Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • Typically 2+ years of relevant experience.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Experience in the Linux Kernel community or other open source projects.
  • Understanding of Linux kernel subsystems and their interactions.
  • Scripting skills for testing, performance, and bug resolution.
  • Experience with open source toolchains and development standards.
  • Experience designing and developing software systems and tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with software architecture for products and solutions.
  • Ability to design and integrate software systems across multiple platforms.
  • Experience in software testing, debugging, and executing test plans.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and local language.
  • Ability to communicate product architectures and design proposals effectively at all organizational levels.
