The field of artificial intelligence is rapidly advancing and transforming industries across the globe. At TransPerfect, we are embracing this technological wave by integrating AI innovations into our processes. As a part of our Artificial Intelligence team (AI team), the Junior NLP Engineer will learn and collaborate with specialists in technologies such as Natural Language Processing (NLP) and contribute to projects that align with our customer-focused objectives.

The Junior NLP Engineer will support the enhancement of cutting-edge NLP technologies with an emphasis on supporting translation, multilingual content generation, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems. This role involves understanding and assisting in the development, design, and implementation of NLP-related software products. The Junior Engineer will work closely with team members and Product Managers (PdM) to ensure project alignment with company goals, coordinate with the Quality Assurance team (QA team) during development phases, and assist the Support team with troubleshooting and bug resolution.

DESCRIPTION

• Actively participate in projects involving NLP technologies and support their integration into business applications.
• Assist in the analysis, design, development, maintenance, and support of AI-driven applications, web services, and APIs focused on NLP.
• Collaborate on projects related to machine translation, summarization, and natural language generation to meet key business objectives.
• Assist in gathering, curating, and organizing data crucial to building robust NLP technologies, using publicly available datasets when necessary.
• Support the proposal and implementation of NLP solutions to address complex business requirements.
• Contribute to the development of multilingual content generation and RAG systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Write and implement clean code while helping maintain and optimize existing systems, focusing on bug fixes and minor patches.
• Document code and processes clearly for the benefit of the AI team.
• Continuously seek out process improvements and suggest enhancements.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Fundamental programming skills with exposure to both Front-end and Back-end development.
• Basic knowledge of programming languages such as Python, with an interest in further developing these skills for NLP tasks.
• Familiarity with AI and NLP frameworks or tools like TensorFlow or PyTorch is a bonus.
• A strong willingness to learn about LLMs and experience in any related projects is advantageous.
• Problem-solving skills and an interest in creative approaches to AI challenges.
• Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies in AI and NLP.
• Analytical thinking and the ability to work independently as well as in dynamic teams.
• Good communication skills to collaborate effectively within the team.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to quality, with a basic understanding of writing unit tests.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
• Interest or experience in software development, with a focus on AI / ML and NLP is preferred.
• Exposure to full software development life cycle practices, including coding standards and code reviews.
• Experience working with APIs and basic knowledge of databases.
• A basic understanding of product development and a willingness to participate in product discussions.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• A strong interest in natural language processing and machine learning practices.
• Experience with LLM applications for translation or content generation is a plus.
• Interest in full-stack development is beneficial.
• Experience or interest in working within collaborative team settings on AI projects.
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., GIT) is desirable.
• Experience or interest in the localization or language services industry is advantageous.
