Nearby Computing seeks a Junior Network Operations Technician to operate NearbyOne on-site at a Madrid data centre for a Defence-sector client. You will monitor routers, switches and firewalls from Cisco, HPE/Aruba, Palo Alto, and CheckPoint, while executing configuration and diagnostic workflows.

Based on-site, you’ll act as the client’s on-site technical contact with full training provided. A solid networking foundation and willingness to learn are essential for growth in our fast-scaling team.

Formación

• 1–2 years of experience in network operations or IT support.
• Foundational networking knowledge: TCP/IP, switching, routing, VLANs, subnetting, basic firewall concepts.
• Working knowledge of SNMP and network monitoring.
• Basic CLI skills (Cisco IOS or similar) via SSH/console.
• Fluent/native Spanish; English reading technical level.

Responsabilidades

• Operate NearbyOne platform: monitor network health and device status.
• Follow guided workflows to configure, diagnose and resolve issues with engineering collaboration.
• Maintain clear incident records and on-site documentation.
• Serve as on-site technical contact for the client with remote team support.
• Build expertise hands-on in production environment and contribute to product evolution.
• Share insights with the product team to shape NearbyOne's development.

At Nearby Computing, we are looking to bring on board a Junior Network Operations Technician with a hands-on approach, strong motivation, and a genuine willingness to learn, to operate our NearbyOne platform on-site at a high-profile Defence-sector client.

The Role

As a Junior Network Operations Technician, you will be based on-site at the client's data centre in Madrid, operating our NearbyOne platform to monitor network infrastructure - including routers, switches, and firewalls from vendors such as Cisco, HPE/Aruba, Palo Alto, and CheckPoint - while executing configuration and diagnostic workflows. You will also serve as the on-site technical contact between the client and the team you will be joining at Nearby Computing, with full training provided along the way.

Your hands-on experience with the platform in a real production environment will be key to driving continuous product improvement. If you have a solid foundation in networking fundamentals and the ability to learn quickly in a demanding environment, this is a strong opportunity to grow within a fast-scaling team, contributing to a strategic engagement with a Defence-sector client and building long-term career growth.

What You'll Do

• Operate NearbyOne platform: review network health dashboards, check device status, monitor interface performance metrics and identify anomalies.
• Work through guided workflows to configure, diagnose, and resolve issues in collaboration with the engineering team.
• Keep clear and organized records of every incident you handle.
• Act as the trusted on-site technical contact for the client, staying connected with the remote team of Nearby Computing.
• Build expertise by working hands-on in our production environment.
• Share your insights with the product team, directly shaping how NearbyOne evolves.

Requirements

• 1-2 years of experience in network operations / IT support (recent graduates with a strong technical foundation are also welcome to apply)
• Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, switching, routing, VLANs, subnetting, basic firewall concepts
• Working knowledge of SNMP and network monitoring
• Basic CLI skills (Cisco IOS or another vendor) via SSH/console
• Fluent/native Spanish; technical reading in English (Spoken level a plus)
• Availability to work 100% on-site in Madrid

Nice to Have

• Degree or vocational training (CFGS) in Telecommunications, Networking, or Computer Science.
• Experience with Zabbix, Nagios, PRTG, or Grafana
• Exposure to multi-vendor environments (Juniper, Fortinet, etc.)
• CCNA, JNCIA, or CompTIA Network+ certification
• Prior experience in government or defence environments
