The IBF is a joint research centre of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). In partnership with Fundación Biofísica Bizkaia (FBB), the centre focuses on advancing knowledge about the physical and chemical processes underlying biology and disease. With the FBB accredited as a Basque Excellence Research Centre (BERC) by the Basque Government, the IBF and FBB partnership enjoys a strong national and international reputation, and provides outstanding shared facilities for advanced biophysical and structural biology approaches in a new research building in the main Leioa campus of the UPV/EHU.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development and characterization of polypeptide and polymer nanoparticles engineered to encapsulate cardiovascular drugs and respond to high shear stress environments characteristic of atherosclerotic plaques. The work will involve synthesis and formulation of nanoparticles, investigation of their rheological and structural properties under shear using small-angle scattering techniques, assessment of their drug solubilization and release profiles, and the development of microfluidic and flow devices that mirror conditions in the atherosclerotic plaque. We offer a unique opportunity to work at the interface of nanotechnology, soft matter physics, engineering, and biomedicine within an interdisciplinary research environment.
The ideal candidate will have a background in chemistry, physics, engineering, or nanoscience. The contract period is from 1st January 2026 to 31st December 2026. This position offers the possibility to apply for general and neutrionic specific PhD scholarships by the Basque Government to start in January 2027, after completing this 1-year contract. One requirement for obtaining the PhD scholarships is that the candidate is registered as a resident of the Basque Country prior to January 1st.
