What does a Platform Engineer do at Busuu?

As a Platform Engineer, you will work on a new and exciting initiative at Busuu. You will be involved in all phases from ideation, implementation, to release, collaborating across departments. Your work will be visible to millions once released, and you'll measure, evaluate, and improve upon it.

Our platform operates on a distributed system architecture using Node.js (TypeScript), adhering to best coding practices and hexagonal architecture with Domain-Driven Design. We utilize event-driven architecture patterns with message brokers and event streaming. Our infrastructure is cloud-native, leveraging AWS services and infrastructure-as-code principles. We practice DevOps and GitOps with a focus on automation and observability. Working at scale presents unique challenges, and we're looking for someone passionate about solving complex problems and building scalable solutions.

What makes a great Platform Engineer at Busuu?

Must-have skills :

• Expertise in AWS cloud services, focusing on cloud-native solutions
• Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD (GitHub, ArgoCD), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform / Terragrunt)
• Knowledge of Kubernetes for container orchestration and cluster management
• Skills in network engineering, including load balancers, CDN, Istio, and security patterns
• Experience with observability platforms (OpenTelemetry) and distributed systems

Nice-to-have skills :

• Proficiency in Python programming and Linux system debugging
• Experience in database administration (SQL, MongoDB, Redis)
• Experience with message brokers and event streaming (Kafka)
• Skills in database performance optimization
