Head of Computer Center (f/m/d) (future IT Services)

full-time, up to EG 14 TV-H, permanent

The Data Center department manages IT operations, develops digital services, and oversees the university's overall IT development. As Head of the Data Center, you will play a key role: responsible for implementing the IT strategy, managing the IT infrastructure, and leading a dedicated team. You will be the central contact for IT matters and advise university management on strategic IT issues. The role offers creative scope for strategic realignment of the IT department.

Your main responsibilities include:

  1. Strategic & overarching tasks:
  2. Advising the Vice President for University Development and Digitalization in her role as Presidential CIO
  3. Developing and implementing the IT strategy in close coordination with the CIO
  4. Enhancing the IT service portfolio to align with university needs and managing the IT infrastructure, including security concepts
  5. Budget management, IT controlling, and resource optimization
  1. Operational & management tasks:
  2. Managing the current four-person team, developing team structures and processes
  3. Serving as an escalation point for 2nd level support
  4. Overseeing IT security, data backup, data protection, and emergency management
  5. Driving technological innovation, procedural improvements, and operational security
  6. Planning, managing, and monitoring departmental goals
  7. Developing and overseeing service level agreements
  8. Managing IT projects in collaboration with the CIO and DTO
  9. Ensuring proactive communication within the team, across the university, and with partners

Your profile:

  • Completed relevant university degree (Master's or diploma) in computer science or a comparable field
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree or FH diploma with at least four years of professional IT experience
  • Management experience in strategic and operational roles is advantageous
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience in IT, including Networks, Linux/Windows Server, Cloud technologies, RHEL/CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu
  • Experience with servers, storage, virtualization, IT operations, security, and network infrastructure (TCP/IP, switching, routing, firewalls, VPN)
  • Experience managing IT projects and multi-project environments
  • Proficiency in German and English
  • Experience with university structures is a plus
  • High initiative, analytical skills, and service orientation
  • Negotiation skills and a strong sense of responsibility
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team
