The Internet of Things Research Area at the i2CAT Foundation is looking for an IoT Engineer to work on innovation projects.

The selected candidate will join the IoT group to work in the implementation and development of IoT solutions and prototypes and their evaluation in real environments. The job offers the opportunity to investigate and work with emergent IoT technologies and solutions from a very applied perspective. Specifically, the candidate will collaborate on current projects in areas such as :

  • Enhancement of communication and energy consumption capabilities for IoT solutions.
  • Implementation of advanced sensing solutions for Smart Cities.
  • Design and implementation of precise tracking and positioning solutions based on IoT technologies such as sensor fusion, RF, or Visible Light Communications.
  • Development of future IoT smart environments and sensing solutions capable of exploiting intelligence in constrained IoT devices, adapting to scenario needs, and improving user interaction.

The main tasks performed by the candidate will include :

  • Development and implementation of HW and SW/FW IoT prototypes.
  • Deployment of experimental testbeds to validate prototypes in controlled and real-world conditions.
  • Development of tools and scripts to evaluate and monitor solutions.
  • Writing technical documentation and project deliverables.
  • Collaboration with other researchers and engineers involved in the projects.

The candidate should be capable of working autonomously and proactively, demonstrating critical thinking skills.

  • Work from our offices or from home, with only one day per week required in the office for team coordination.

Requirements

The candidate must meet the following minimum requirements :

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in telecommunications, electronics, or IT engineering.
  • At least 1 year of applied experience in R&D or professional activities in at least two of the following areas :

Hardware design and implementation of functional IoT prototypes.

  • IoT communication technologies and protocols.
  • Linux embedded systems.
  • Artificial Intelligence applied to constrained devices (e.g., TinyML).
  • Experience in IoT prototyping and working with IoT platforms and IDEs.
  • Proficiency in C / C++ and Python programming.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously, proactively, and responsibly.

Additional merits include :

  • Knowledge of IoT technologies and protocols (UWB, WiFi HaLow, LPWAN, VLC).
  • Experience with hardware design software (Kicad, Altium, Eagle...).
  • Experience deploying IoT sensors (ToF, Lidar, cameras, microphones).
  • Experience with wireless analysis tools (Wireshark, tcpdump, sniffers) and laboratory equipment.
  • Data analysis and visualization skills (R, Python, Excel, Grafana).
  • Interest in pursuing MSc or PhD in IoT topics.
  • Knowledge of Android / iPhone app development.
  • Applied AI, NN, and ML knowledge.
  • Experience in computer vision (OpenCV).
  • Participation in European or national R&D projects.
