Accreditation of Sufficient Knowledge of Catalan for Teaching
Decree 128/2010, of September 14, on the accreditation of linguistic knowledge of teaching staff at universities within the Catalan university system, provides that university professors must accredit sufficient knowledge of Catalan, both in oral and written expression, in accordance with the demands of their academic duties. At the time of signing the contract, the selected person may choose between accrediting knowledge of Catalan or postponing this accreditation for a maximum period of two years. The accreditation of this linguistic competence and participation in the necessary training actions to achieve and maintain it are part of the ordinary and assessable obligations of the teaching staff.
In the case of teaching in third languages, it is recommended to start linguistic training in order to be able to interact with students, teaching and research staff, and administrative and service staff in any of the working languages and to be able to attend to the linguistic rights of the university community. It is also recommended to start this training because if teaching in Catalan or Spanish is assigned at any time, two years after hiring, sufficient knowledge will need to be accredited.
This accreditation corresponds to what is established in Decree 128/2010, of September 14. More information can be found on the UPF Languages website.
