TL;DR

We’re looking for a Head of Machine Learning to lead Photoroom’s world-class ML team. You’ll be responsible for driving our long-term technical vision, supporting the team with focus and structure, and bringing product-aligned innovation to life, fast.

This leadership role is for someone who thrives on owning technical strategy and scaling people. You’ll guide a team working on generative AI, diffusion models, image understanding, and ML infrastructure — while ensuring close collaboration with product, engineering, and design.

Work Location & Flexibility : You can work from anywhere in Europe within a 3-hour flight from Paris (HQ) and visit our office once a month (fully paid by Photoroom) or more often. We also support relocation (up to €10k), including finding an apartment in Paris and visa assistance. Currently, we sponsor visas for those relocating to France or based here; remote outside France is not sponsored at this time.

Equipment - new MacBook Pro, monitor, keyboard, etc.

Socials - Biannual retreats, weekly Happy Hour & Game Time

Language - Work in English; language lessons available (English & French).

About The Role
  • Define and drive the long-term ML technical strategy aligned with product and business goals.
  • Act as a thought partner to the founders on AI strategy and vision.
  • Lead, grow, and mentor a high-performing ML team (currently 10 people across GenAI, CV, and ML infra).
  • Create a team culture where members feel empowered, supported, and challenged.
  • Ensure strong collaboration with Product and Engineering teams.
  • Rapidly deploy state-of-the-art models into production.
  • Increase experimentation speed and focus.
  • Scale the team intentionally through smart hiring, clear roadmaps, and a low-meeting culture.
What Success Looks Like
  • Clear ML roadmap with cross-functional visibility.
  • Improved experimentation throughput.
  • Excellence in GenAI and computer vision research and delivery.
  • Fast, predictable transition from R&D to production.
  • Team growth to 20–30 members without loss of quality or spirit.
  • Strong external reputation (publications, partnerships, open source).
  • Team members feel they are growing and succeeding together.
About You
  • Proven technical leadership in ML / AI, preferably in startups or scale-ups.
  • Deep expertise in Computer Vision, Diffusion / GenAI, or related fields.
  • Comfort with the entire ML stack: research to production.
  • Experience leading and developing ICs and emerging leaders.
  • Strong product intuition and user focus.
  • Ability to prioritize, say no, and maintain focus.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Bonus: hands-on coding, hardware infra knowledge, open source contributions.
