Job summary

ABB is seeking a Field Service Technician to program, commission, and maintain ABB drives and control-systems in Metals and Pulp & Paper plants. The role involves on-call duties and domestic travel, with a hybrid work model in Sevilla, Spain.

The candidate will work with a local and international project team, ensuring safety and quality while delivering responsive service and reliable troubleshooting.

Qualifications

• CFGS or University studies in Electricity, Electronics or Automation, plus 2+ years in commissioning, maintenance, or technical support.
• Safe and ethical leadership with good understanding of functional safety standards.
• Spoken and written Spanish at native/high level.
• Good command of English; additional languages welcome.
• Available to travel; valid driving license for Spain.

Responsibilities

• Take on-call service according to contracts; 24h availability during on-call periods.
• Adapt work time to customer needs, including extra hours on weekends/holidays.
• Travel 60–80% for commissioning and service activities, mainly domestic.
• Collaborate with project managers, sales, customers, and engineers across locations.
• Advise customers on best service solutions per standards and procedures.
• Troubleshoot simple equipment and recommend improvements to avoid repetition.
• Identify opportunities to develop new service applications and methods.

Role Overview

This position reports to: Service Team Leader

As a Field Service Technician, you will be assuming responsibility for the programming, engineering, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of ABB industrial Drives and control-systems in Metals and Pulp and Paper Plants. You will be part of a local and collaborate with international project team providing solutions to our clients.

As a Field Service Technician, you will execute service work with low to medium complexity according to work instructions and in accordance with ABB standard processes, quality standards and safety guidelines. You must take on-call service according customer contracts, at least one complete week every three weeks. During the week of on-call service, 24h total availability to go home customer to solve the problems.

This role is contributing to the Automation Process Industries Division in Sevilla, Spain.

Key Responsibilities

• Service Technical Support: Take on-call service according customer contracts, at least one complete week every two weeks. During the week of on-call service, 24h availability to travel and attend customer's corrective maintenance.
• Availability and Flexibility: Adapt work time to customer needs, that means working when required extra hours during weekends or public holidays.
• Willingness to travel (~60% -80% ): for commissioning and service activities, mainly domestic travel.
• Interacting and collaborating with project managers, sales, customers, and engineering peers across multiple locations.
• Consulting and advising customers on the best service solutions in accordance with standard processes, procedures and safety guidelines.
• Troubleshooting simple equipment failure and making recommendations to avoid repeating the problem in the future.
• Identifying opportunities to develop new service applications, equipment and methods.

Qualifications for the Role

• CFGS or University studies (Electricity, Electronic or Automation) and more than 2 years in jobs like: commissioning, maintenance, technical assistance.
• Safe and ethical leadership attitude; good understanding of functional safety standards and project practices.
• Spoken and written Spanish native or high level.
• Good command of English, additional language skills are welcome.
• Leadership and Initiative and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Available to travel and adjust working hours.
• Valid driving license for Spain are required.
