A leading agri trading company is seeking an Assistant General Counsel for the South & West Europe region. The role is based in Barcelona, Spain, and requires 10+ years of experience in corporate/commercial law. Responsibilities include overseeing legal team members, drafting contracts, managing disputes, and supporting business transactions. The ideal candidate should be a proactive, qualified lawyer fluent in English with strong business acumen.

Formación

  • 10+ years of experience in an international law firm or as an in-house attorney in a multinational corporation.
  • Expertise in corporate/commercial law, regulatory, industrial operations, M&A, and agreements.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented with strong initiative.

Responsabilidades

  • Oversee relevant legal team members within the region.
  • Draft and review commercial contracts used in the business.
  • Manage legal requirements for corporate entities within the country.
  • Provide pre-litigation legal advice and assist with dispute resolution.
  • Handle and draft pleadings for arbitration/litigation cases.
  • Support business transactions including M&A and joint ventures.

Job Description:

Purpose of the role:

The main purpose is to provide legal services and support for European countries including Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Netherlands, and to the BEMEA legal team in key areas. It involves both commercial and industrial legal matters. The role requires regular contact with all levels of the business, working closely with management to understand their strategies, challenges, opportunities, and industry environment.

Main Accountabilities:
  • Management: Oversee relevant legal team members within the region.
  • Commercial Documentation: Draft and review commercial contracts used in the business.
  • Corporate: Manage legal requirements for corporate entities within the country.
  • Disputes: Provide pre-litigation legal advice, assist with dispute resolution, and negotiate settlements to minimize risks.
  • Litigation case management: Handle and draft pleadings for arbitration / litigation cases, manage external counsel, and evaluate major court cases.
  • Transactional work: Support business transactions including M&A, joint ventures, and other deals.
  • Compliance: Collaborate with compliance to ensure lawful and policy adherence.
  • Business Relationship: Build partnerships with the business by understanding their environment and proactively addressing issues.
  • Legal Support Technology: Support the implementation of legal tech solutions like Docusign and trackers.
  • Representation: Represent the organization before authorities and agencies.
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation.
What are we looking for:

We seek candidates with 10+ years of experience in an international law firm or as an in-house attorney in a multinational corporation, with expertise in corporate / commercial law, regulatory, industrial operations, M&A, and agreements. The ideal candidate is proactive, inquisitive, and anticipates business needs, showing initiative and responsiveness. You should be a senior business partner comfortable with autonomy and collaboration, detail-oriented, and adaptable to an international environment.
