Job summary

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in Madrid seeks an Underwriter Surety to join its European team. You will balance risk underwriting with client management for corporates and brokers in Iberia and beyond, contributing to a market‑leading surety business.

You will evaluate credit and transaction risks, manage a client portfolio, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to support structured transactions. Strong Spanish and English skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in banking, surety insurer, or financial institution with exposure to credit and guarantee products.
• Strong understanding of credit risks, particularly in relation to surety/guarantee structures.
• Proven analytical and decision‑making skills with the ability to assess complex credit and transactional risks.
• Confident communication and interpersonal skills with experience engaging with clients, brokers and internal stakeholders.
• Spanish native speaker with proficiency in English (written and verbal) is essential.

Responsibilities

• Conduct risk assessments for new and existing clients, ensuring alignment with risk appetite.
• Develop and manage your own client portfolio and transactions across Iberia and Europe.
• Analyse and evaluate credit and transactional risks applying rigorous due diligence.
• Approve transactions within your authority levels and prepare submissions for committees.
• Build and maintain strong client and broker relationships through regular engagement.
• Support Senior Underwriters with execution and monitoring of complex transactions and key accounts.
• Conduct market analysis to identify changes in underwriting, market and legal landscape.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the European Surety team to share knowledge and improve processes.
