General Description :
The open position is within the Environment and Human Rights Corporate Department, one of four areas reporting to Telefonica’s Chief Sustainability Officer.
- The department’s mission is to design, develop, and implement strategies to address opportunities and mitigate risks related to environment, climate change, sustainable supply chains, and human rights at a global level, impacting all Telefonica geographies and businesses.
Main Functions :
The environmental expert will participate in projects related to environment and circular economy regulations:
- Implement projects to address gaps in new environmental regulations (circularity, due diligence, water, biodiversity):
- Define processes and support internal transformation projects at local and global levels in collaboration with other teams and companies (e.g., biodiversity).
- Support water footprint calculations, water reduction initiatives, and risk assessments.
- Conduct environmental due diligence of the value chain.
Environmental information reporting and assurance (CSRD):
- Participate in Telefónica's annual non-financial report following CSRD requirements.
- Support internal controls and auditing of non-financial information.
- Lead projects to fill regulatory gaps, including environmental requirements linked to the value chain and circularity.
Carbon footprint management and reduction initiatives (Scope 3):
- Collaborate to reduce the carbon footprint through renewables, efficiency, and circular economy initiatives.
- Assist in implementing carbon pricing strategies.
- Support Scope 3 emissions calculations across all locations.
Circular Economy:
- Support the implementation of circular strategies, including procurement criteria and eco-design of devices.
- Track circularity metrics such as reuse, refurbishment, and recycling.
- Work with customers on return/buyback programs for used devices.
Participate in sector initiatives, task forces, and expert groups related to environment topics.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or related fields; postgraduate studies in environment and climate change are a plus.
- Additional training in environmental management is valued.
Experience :
- 3-5 years in environmental topics, in corporate or consultancy settings.
- Experience with environmental management systems (ISO 14001, 50001) and KPI reporting is advantageous.
Languages :
- Fluent in English and Spanish; proficiency in Portuguese and German is a plus.
Skills :
- Passion and interest in sustainability trends and challenges.
- Strong analytical skills to identify gaps and opportunities.
- Teamwork and project participation experience in an international environment.
- Ability to produce reports, presentations, and papers.
- Effective communication and writing skills.
