Job summary

Monzo is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a senior team of engineers in Barcelona. You’ll coach, empower and develop talent while shaping technical strategy, delivery and collaboration with product, design and data.

You'll lead on setting goals, roadmaps and outcomes, foster engineering excellence, and maintain autonomy in a fast-paced, experimentation-friendly environment. This role emphasizes delivery impact and people leadership.

Qualifications

• Has worked on user-facing mobile products and can discuss product impact, roadmapping and goals.
• Owner mindset with strong ownership of initiatives driving business impact.
• Understands what defines a high-performing engineering team and how to reach it.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and autonomy in problem spaces.
• Bonus if you have experience in experimentation-led environments.
• Delivery experience and ability to guide squads toward outcomes.
• Focus on outcomes over processes and ability to empower teams.
• Ability to input, challenge engineering decisions and coach others.
• Natural ability to inspire and motivate a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead a high performing, senior team of engineers. You'll be supporting, coaching, and developing them through their careers.
• Partnering closely with Product, Design, Research, and Data to build out product strategy, vision and mission setting, and goal setting.
• Taking accountability for delivery across your squad(s), collaborating with Technical Leads and Product Manager.
• Actively fostering a high bar for engineering excellence within your teams.
• Partner with senior engineers in your area to drive technical initiatives that raise the bar for our engineering practices.
• Lead on communication with stakeholders from other teams, creating focus space for engineers to do their best work.
• Collaborate with the wider engineering organisation to contribute to company-wide best managerial and technical practices and standards.
