About The Role

You will manage the Kong Gateway engineering team based in Europe. Members of the team are responsible for engineering tasks in different areas of Kong Gateway, such as router, balancer, plugins development kit (PDK), management API, observability metrics, and distributed clustering infrastructure.

What You'll Be Doing

• Hire, mentor, and maintain healthy Engineering teams who value collaboration and innovation.
• Manage shift scheduling, measure key performance indicators (KPIs), and oversee training to ensure high-quality work and SLA compliance.
• Possess solid technical expertise in Linux systems troubleshooting and profiling, with experience using debugging tools such as gdb, systemtap, tcpdump, crash, or others.
• Demonstrate leadership in organizing and prioritizing complex problem resolution and debugging distributed services.
• Organize and manage your teams to align with the organization and support company success.
• Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
• Provide constructive feedback to engineers, conduct 1 : 1s, address interpersonal issues, and perform reviews.
• Suggest engineering guidelines, principles, and processes to improve the engineering organization.
• Perform any additional tasks as required by the manager.

What You'll Bring

• At least 4 years of engineering management experience.
• Experience managing remote teams.
• Experience conducting reviews, hiring, and compensation discussions.
• Demonstrated leadership of engineering teams, preferably with experience working on Rust codebases.
• Proven customer relationship skills with internal and external customers. Experience with on-premise, cloud, and hybrid products.
• Experience working on an infrastructure product line.
