The main purpose of this job is to become an Engineering Manager within the Engineering Productivity department in the Tech Services division at Ocado Technology, focused on the Observability area.

The Observability area’s main mission is to provide a platform that enables Ocado employees to detect, react, understand, reduce, and recover from problems to reach operational excellence. It also enables employees to be fully aware of their applications' behavior and user interactions, translating into insights for better decision-making.

This role involves leading the Observability Team, a highly skilled multidisciplinary group creating innovative solutions and supporting the evolution of the Observability platform of the OTP (Ocado Technology Platform) provided by the Engineering Productivity department.

About the role :

  • Set, communicate, and adjust a clear vision for what is built, establishing expectations.
  • Identify key assets and opportunities, keeping them tracked in your radar and backlog.
  • Foster energy, mutual help, context sharing, and engagement within the team and organization.
  • Own engineering excellence and efficiency, adapting focus as needed.
  • Challenge the status quo when building and shipping solutions.
  • Make strategic trade-offs to move projects forward faster and better.
  • Address gaps in daily operations by facilitating meetings, improving processes, or contributing directly to testing, reviewing, or building deliverables.
  • Remove sources of unnecessary distraction and defocus.
  • Monitor team well-being and ensure psychological safety.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, product managers, designers, and other engineering leads.
  • Maintain awareness of compliance, security, costs, and process improvements.
  • Ensure documentation for architecture, users, onboarding, and tooling is current and comprehensive.
  • Apply continuous improvement (kaizen) principles to all team activities.
  • Communicate effectively through team ceremonies and meetings, sharing your views and opinions.
  • Use asynchronous communication (Slack, etc.) to ensure clarity and understanding of your messages.
