Introduction to the vacant position :

The Molecular Imaging for Precision Medicine (MIPMED) group is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to participate in ongoing research projects. The contract will be within the framework of the ERC Starting Grant project “Lifetime Metabolomics for Paediatric Liver Cancer Detection and Therapy Assessment Using Organ-on-Chip Platforms (LIFETIME)”.

The ideal candidate will be an NMR / MRI Physicist or Chemist with a strong background in hyperpolarization techniques, such as Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) and/or Parahydrogen-Induced Polarization (PHIP). Expertise in programming, pulse sequence development, and implementation is essential. The candidate must be able to design and execute experiments to improve hyperpolarization methods and their applications in biomedical research.

This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to work in multidisciplinary and international teams, and a commitment to supporting cutting-edge scientific research.

Main tasks and responsibilities :
  • Design, optimize, and implement DNP and/or PHIP protocols for NMR/MRI experiments.
  • Develop and validate pulse sequences tailored to hyperpolarized signal acquisition.
  • Plan and perform experiments, including hardware setup, calibration, and data acquisition.
  • Maintain detailed records of procedures and results.
  • Process and interpret spectroscopic and imaging data, applying quantitative models and reconstruction algorithms.
  • Develop scripts to streamline analysis workflows.
  • Prepare scientific publications and present findings at conferences and seminars.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team and assist in training junior researchers or students.
  • Ensure adherence to laboratory safety protocols and regulatory guidelines for hyperpolarized agents.
  • Participate in weekly lab meetings.
Requirements for candidates :
  • PhD in Physics, Engineering, Physical Chemistry, or a closely related discipline with a focus on NMR/MRI.
  • Demonstrated experience in hyperpolarization techniques, including DNP and/or PHIP.
  • Proficiency in NMR and MRI pulse sequence development, optimization, and implementation.
  • Strong programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C++, vendor-specific environments).
  • Proven ability to design, conduct, and interpret experiments to improve hyperpolarization methodologies.
Competencies and skills :
  • Excellent communication and teamworking skills, proactivity, commitment, critical and analytical thinking.
  • High level of English.
Advantageous :
  • Experience with spectrometer hardware configuration, RF coil design, troubleshooting NMR/MRI instrumentation.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills for data processing and modeling.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Scientific writing and presentation skills, peer-reviewed publications, conference contributions.
  • International experience.
We value core competencies such as :
  • Communication, Teamwork, Collaboration, Commitment, Proactivity, Integrity, Critical and Analytical Thinking.
We Offer :
  • Number of positions: 1
  • Full-time, 2-year contract
  • Salary based on experience
  • Measures for work-life balance, including parental leave, flexible hours, paid holidays, personal leave days.
  • Access to professional development, training, mobility grants, mentoring.
  • International, interdisciplinary research environment.
  • Support for visa and relocation in Barcelona.

Application deadline: Only those submitted before 31 Aug 2025 will be evaluated.
