A leading engineering firm located in Cartagena, Spain is looking for an Interim Engineer in Mechanical Maintenance. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience. Responsibilities include providing mechanical maintenance to rotating equipment, supporting the maintenance team, and ensuring compliance with safety and legal requirements. Proficiency in Spanish and English is mandatory.

Interim Engineer, Mechanical Maintenance

Department: Manufacturing Maintenance

MISSION: The mission of this job is to develop mechanical expertise to perform high-skill jobs for the manufacturing facility in Cartagena, with a focus on mechanical integrity and compliance with safety-critical equipment/system maintenance requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide mechanical maintenance to rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, blowers, extruders, etc.) and mechanical seals.
• Deliver first-line troubleshooting for maintenance, lead multidisciplinary problem-solving, scope complex tasks, approve work instructions, and utilize best practices in the mechanical shop.
• Support the maintenance team daily and participate in Run & Maintain Teams to optimize technical solutions and costs.
• Evaluate completed maintenance work and call-outs to improve efficiency and effectiveness, enhancing preventive and predictive maintenance.
• Assist units and maintenance with urgent replacements/projects, scope large and small maintenance jobs, and serve as SABIC maintenance key contact.
• Support optimization of preventive maintenance plans, participate in RCA, RCM, RBI, and hazard studies, and advise on equipment specs and standards.
• Ensure compliance with engineering, safety, environmental, and legal requirements.
• Contribute to organizational performance and SABIC’s goals through intrinsic responsibilities.
• Lead initiatives to improve maintenance performance.
• Support the creation or modification of spare parts, analyzing alternatives.
• Manage deployment of SABIC Manufacturing Standards and Asset Management Program.
• Review pink Cards and attend Pre Start-up meetings.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
• Knowledge of maintenance processes and systems (e.g., CMMS, SAP).
• 3-5 years’ experience in industrial maintenance preferred.
• Fluency in Spanish and English, both written and spoken.

• Analytical skills and ability to prioritize value opportunities.
