About the Organization

The International Risk and Controls team operates within International Card Services (ICS), which includes all issuing functions across 28 international markets excluding the US. ICS manages products for our Consumer and Commercial customers and is a key part of American Express’s global growth strategy. Our organization helps international businesses manage risk, respond to regulations, develop new products, and build partnerships across stakeholders.

Role Overview

The ICS Control Management Legal Entity (AEESA) Spain & Benelux Market Team provides strategic operational risk advisory to ensure an effective control environment that meets operational risk obligations for the Legal Entity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in execution plans for operational risk management within the business unit, including guidelines, project plans, and control gap resolutions.
  • Track issues related to Key Risk Indicator (KRI) limits and risk appetite to ensure risks are managed within thresholds.
  • Support the implementation of the operational risk framework to facilitate effective risk management and decision-making.
  • Communicate regularly to promote understanding of the risk governance framework across business units.
  • Assist with reporting, approvals, and change activities related to operational risk.
  • Ensure regulatory changes are integrated into the risk framework and training materials.
  • Support the Legal Entity Governance Committee by coordinating materials, taking minutes, and documenting risks, issues, and decisions.
  • Share insights and best practices within the team and across the Legal Entity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of experience in operational risk management or related fields.
  • Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of process governance and regulatory frameworks.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and evaluate risks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or related field; advanced degrees or certifications are advantageous.
  • Experience in translating risk strategies into guidelines, tracking KRIs, and supporting governance frameworks.
