Your Role

As Junior Certification Manager, you will play a key role in driving a just and sustainable energy transition in hard-to-abate sectors such as aviation, shipping and materials, by contributing to the development and improvement of RSB certification system globally, as part of our Sustainability Foundations team.

You will report to the Standards & Certifications Director and work closely with the RSB Certifications Lead and the rest of the Sustainability Foundations team.

You will be responsible for four main areas of work:

  • Certification management: serves as the primary focus of this role, encompassing the development of certification systems, administration of certifications, management of the EU Union Database, and providing support to economic operators throughout the certification process.
  • Oversight and accreditation management support: under the supervision of the RSB Certifications Lead, engage in a variety of tasks (report analysis and development, training) with Certification Bodies and the Oversight Body, to ensure that the RSB certification process is carried out accurately and efficiently.
  • Reporting and data management: support the Certification Lead with reporting and record-keeping, which includes collaborating on RSB's Impact Report, regulatory reporting, and reporting to the RSB Board.
  • Support in conducting technical gap analyses to promote the development of RSB certification (such as benchmarking RSB certification requirements in RSB with those of partner certification schemes).
  • Assist the RSB Certifications Lead in compliance assessments and technical reporting (such as assessments demonstrating compliance with the EU Renewable Energy Directive and other EU and international regulatory frameworks, including ISEAL compliance assessments, etc.)
  • Implement system improvements to RSB Standards and the certification system and tools (revision of system documentation, auditing checklists, etc.), as agreed with the RSB Standards & Certification Director.
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication activities, as agreed with the RSB Standards & Certification Director, to support the development and promotion of RSB certification globally.
  • Delivering on any other project tasks and work packages assigned to you related to developing, improving, and maintaining the RSB sustainability certification system, ensuring well-planned and timely delivery


Requirements

Required - Education, experience, and qualifications

  • 2-4 years of professional experience in the sustainable biofuels, bioenergy and/ or biomaterials sector, preferably with experience in sustainability certification/auditing
  • Professional expertise with an understanding of sustainability, circularity, and biofuels/biomaterials in EU policy and international frameworks (such as the EU Renewable Energy Directive (EU RED) and the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).
  • Professional expertise with a solid understanding of auditing processes and how environmental certification systems operate (management systems, relevant ISO Standards, Chain of Custody and sustainability certification, etc.), gained through corporate, consulting or auditing professional experience.
  • The ability to undertake in-depth technical analyses (gap analysis, benchmarks) to support the development of RSB certification
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and ability to interact with companies, certification bodies, non-profit agencies, and experts worldwide from several backgrounds
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Valid work permit for UK, Spain or Germany
  • Willingness to travel on occasion as required by the role

Desired

  • Knowledge of accreditation standards, processes and organisations
  • Auditor qualification and/or auditing experience
  • Experience with EU RED and ICAO CORSIA recognised certification standards
  • Experience working in a third-party certification body (auditing experience), having gained an in-depth understanding of auditing processes and systems.
  • Experience in the agricultural/industrial/chemical sector is an asset
