Mission

As n8n grows rapidly and its complexity increases, we are looking for a Staff Engineer to work on the core of n8n, the workflow engine. You will design for scalability, reliability, and extensibility, making it easier for contributors and teams to build on n8n. You should lead and drive change, challenging the status quo.

We seek someone with experience in building and scaling workflow engines or similar systems like state machines, job schedulers, distributed task processors, or event-driven platforms capable of supporting millions of users and tasks.

• Scalability: Enabling high throughput use-cases
• Memory efficiency
• Reliability of the platform (correct, consistent, and predictable execution of workflows under normal and high-stress conditions)
• Fault tolerance (e.g., recovery from unexpected problems)

Requirements

• Deep experience in architecting and building complex event-driven platforms, such as workflow engines that scale to millions of users and events
• Experience leading multi-year projects impacting significant parts of a product
• Excellent communication and project management skills to ensure team alignment and buy-in
• Willingness to work with Node.js & Typescript, with flexibility to incorporate other technologies as needed
