Offer Description

The Maimonides Biomedical Research Institute of Cordoba (IMIBIC) is looking for an early stage researcher to carry out scientific and technical tasks, consisting on culture, conservation and determination of microorganisms. The aim is to complete a doctoral thesis within the research project “Adaption of versatile options for glucopeptidic antibiotics against antimicrobial resistant organisms”, grant reference number AC24 / 00161, at theIMBIC research group GC24 “ Clinical and Molecular Microbiology ”.

Summary : Research project :

• The grant has been awareded and funded by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III .
• Culture and preservation of microorganisms.
• Identification of microorganisms (traditional techniques, MAlDI-Tof, genome sequencing including massive sequencing).
• MIC determination by reference standard methods and by commercial kits.
• Determination of bactericide activity of antimicrobial drugs.
• In-vitro generation of mutants for antimicrobials of clinical interest.
• Biochemical, proteomics and molecular techniques for determining the mechanisms of resistance to antimicrobials.
• Amplification and sequencing of nucleic acids.
• Bioinformatics analyses for bacterial identification and characterisation of virulence and resistance genes.

Skills / Qualifications

• University Degree in Life sciences with at least 300 ECTS credits.
• Or University Degree in Life Sciences with at least 240 ECTS credits, complemented with a Masters' Degree on Biomedical Research or Biomedicine.
• Being enrolled in a PhD programme before the start of the contract.
• Include in the application an official work experience report (informe de vida laboral), as it is a requisite for the type of contract offered.

Specific Requirements

• Verifiable experience in a Service / Research Unit in the field of Microbiology carrying out the following tasks ( up to 4 points ) :
• Culture and preservation of microorganisms (0.5 points every 6 months of work, up to 1 point ).
• MIC determination by standard methods or by commercial kits (0.5 points every 6 months of work, up to 1 point ).
• In-vitro determination of antimicrobial activity by antibiotic sensitivity testing using diffusion methods (0.25 points every 6 months of work, up to 0.5 point ).
• Biochemical characterisation of antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, including immunocromatography and MALDI-Tof (0.25 points every 6 months of work, up to 0.5 point ).
• Extraction of nucleic acids (0.25 points every 6 months of work, up to 0.5 point ).
• Molecular typification, amplification, and nucleic acid sequencing techniques (0.25 points every 6 months of work, up to 0.5 point ).
• Publications in JCR journals in the area of microbiology (0.25 points per publication, up to 0.5 point ).
• Communication in congresses (authorship in regional congress : 0.05 points; national congress : 0.1 point; international congress : 0.2 points, up to 1 point ).
• Course on Good Clinical Practices ( 0.5 points ).
• Academic record (up to 1 point , 0.25 points for marks between 5-

Selection process

At least three highest ranked candidates will be invited for a personal interview to assess the candidate’s communication skills, aptitude for the job, and other skills, included in Criterion 2 of the valued merits, valued with a maximum of 3 points .

Only candidates who fulfil at least 50% of the valued merits may be invited for an interview.

After the resolution of the vacancy, and in case the selected person rejects the offer, the Selection and Evaluation Committee may award the contract to the next best-positioned candidate.
