At HEMAV, we are an AgriTech StartUp founded in 2012, working passionately on Data Science in the agrifood industry with the purpose of generating more food with less environmental impact.

We use a unique approach, based on Artificial Intelligence using satellite technology and other data sources (drone, meteo, soil, etc.).

Users of our technology leverage their decision-making systems on information and knowledge generated on a field-by-field basis, with customized per-user models.

The HEMAV family is currently composed of a team of around 40 persons with offices in Spain, Brazil, Peru, and the USA. We have around 50 regional partners distributed between more than 17 countries in Europe, America, and Africa. More than 5,000 users have access to the platform with service in 6 million Hectares.

LAYERS, our software, generates key yield forecasting data. In addition, it offers analytics to the agricultural sector with a large direct impact. For example, clients can improve the efficiency in treatments (sowing, fertilization, irrigation, etc.) and generate estimations in yield (tonnes per hectare), as well as quality estimates (e.g., soybeans protein quantity) for different crops. We know that producers, the agroindustry itself, or even insurance companies and traders in the agronomical sector are facing three main challenges, with a large impact on their gross margin :

• Crop Management
• Production yield and logistics
• Economical yield
• Climate change risk assessment

LAYERS helps minimize these risks through high-quality continuous monitoring and predictions. We want to make LAYERS the core of all the yield-related decisions in the agribusiness value-chain using data and statistics. Our slogan is :

The LAYERS Product Team is the main area of the company, where 13 persons are distributed in four squads: DevOps, BackEnd, UX/UI, and Data Intelligence. Three to four weeks sprints are combined with sprint demos where all the company is updated with the news in the product by all team members.

Tasks

What is your mission in HEMAV?

The main goal of this position is to play a key role in developing software, models, repositories, and continuously improving the data infrastructure, models, and LAYERS product development. You will exchange information and knowledge with data scientists, agronomists, analysts, and other experts to identify, design, and implement models that will impact present and future LAYERS users.

This mission is deeply linked with design, technology, and the team involved in software development, spatio-temporal statistics, agronomical knowledge, and AI in LAYERS’ solutions. Disciplines such as statistics, mathematics, geographical information, software development, and computer vision converge in our team’s work.

Improving the robustness and scalability of LAYERS will also be part of your responsibilities.

Specific Tasks

Specifically, this person will :

• Contribute to the design, planning, and implementation of the LAYERS PredTech, core, and data projects, enhancing value for clients, scalability, and system robustness.
• Implement crop-specific and product-specific solutions in collaboration with agronomists, back-end, front-end, UX/UI, data science, and data engineering teams.
• Maintain and evolve the LAYERS toolset and processes following established coding standards and methodologies.
• Provide technical support to clients facing defects or issues reported by users.
• Continuously improve LAYERS.
• Support stakeholders in business and operations as needed.

Responsibilities and Functions

• Work on development tasks related to LAYERS, collaborating with experts across fields to develop tools that maximize value for users.
• Participate in agile ceremonies such as user story refinement, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Act as a point of contact with internal stakeholders for specific development-related inquiries.

Location

Location: +- 3h from BCN (Spain) time

We support asynchronous work but value teamwork and peer programming. If you're in BCN, you're always welcome at the office :-).

Requirements

Technical Skills

• At least 2 years of professional Python software development experience.
• Experience with Docker.
• Knowledge of AWS Cloud technologies (Glue, Athena, Lambda, etc.).

Nice to have:

• MLOps tools like DVC, MLFlow, Terraform, noSQL (AWS DynamoDB), Earth Observation, Remote Sensing, Spatio-temporal data, Time Series, GraphQL/SQL, CI/CD, Unit testing.

Soft Skills

• Team player with experience working in Agile environments.
• Result-oriented, quality-focused, autonomous, and a challenge lover.
